My Valentine - The Guardian Gladiator

What else could we possibly do?” I snapped to
my PILL (partner in love & life) when (like a
broken record) she asked
once again.
Her concern? What can The Vegas Voice
do to help readers (and everyone else)
protect themselves from the “evil & corrupt”
guardianship system?
No need to repeat Rana’s history with
this scandal. It’s now been now 9+ years
that The Vegas Voice began investigating
and uncovering this dirty/destructive “court
approved” rape of seniors’ assets.
My Rana strongly believes that you must,
must, must avoid ever setting foot in
guardianship court. Between the (not broken
but “fixed”) court system and attorneys’ (and
its always the attorneys) insatiable quest for
your money, whatever can be done to avoid this
nightmare has been my Ladylove’s mission.
She has this simplistic belief that our readers should be able to keep
and decide how they should spend their money and assets in their
retirement years. Not the unwanted guardian.
Toward this end, The Vegas Voice has held over 70 guardianship
seminars around the valley. Last month we held four more with over
500 in attendance.
This time Rana came up with the following plan for these
guardianship workshops:
1. Provide all information/help and assist in filling out the form,
AND
2. Provide the guardianship nomination form, AND
3. Provide the required 2 witnesses, AND
4. Provide free notary services to execute the form, AND
5, Have The Vegas Voice mail out all forms to the Nevada Secretary
of State to place in its “lockbox.”
“Anything else?” I sarcastically asked. “Oh, yes” she quickly replied.
“Make sure we have enough pens for everyone.”
With the wonderful help and assistance of Eleanor Prior of Wet
Ink Mobile Notary and working with the Nevada Notary Public
Loan Signing Success Network Facebook Group, we had additional
volunteer notaries to make sure that everything could be completed as
quickly as possible.
As for my feelings toward the new president of The Vegas Voice, despite
her obsession to help all seniors avoid this guardianship cesspool, and
notwithstanding my reservations of her offering 24/7 assistance, I
nevertheless admire her passion and fierce determination to make the
world (or at least Nevada) a better place.
I was awe-struck by these qualities when I first met her eleven years
ago, and working and living with her hasn’t changed my opinion one
bit. It merely confirmed them.
And while many people deserve credit for their roles in exposing and
reforming the guardianship scandal, can anyone claim that Rana was
not on the front lines? To say that I am and remain terribly proud of
what she has accomplished would be an understatement.
Her fierce, non-stop drive is remarkable and
while there have been times (like before my
morning coffee or while watching the football
games) that my guardianship concerns are
“somewhat” less than Rana’s, I marvel at her
ability to never give up.
I never imagined that I would spend my
evenings and share “pillow-talk” discussing
Nevada Revised Statute 159.059(5)(a) or
coming up with a new strategy to make sure
that everyone fills out the guardianship
nomination form. Who knew that I would be
sleeping with the Guardian Gladiator?
Anyway after these last seminars, she’s still
thinking of ways to make the process even
easier. No doubt, she’ll come up with another
plan to discuss when we go out to dinner
And when she explains and elaborates (in
infinite detail) her latest guardianship plans, I’ll wonder how I’m so
lucky to have her as my forever Valentine.
