their ground. See Appendix 4 for a
copy of the agreement between the
Mawewe Royal Family Trust and
Mawewe Community Trust and

Operation of the opencast mine workings Removal of coal by opencast mining and
subsequent replacement of overburden
material during the mining will result in the
disturbance of the geological layers
overlying the target coal seams.
Opening of opencast pits during mining will
result in the formation of voids, which will
alter the local topographical patterns within
the immediate mining area.
Rehabilitated areas may show areas of
localised water ponding and impaired
drainage.
