Runoff from the backfilled final voids may contain elevated silt load, which will have negative impacts on the nearby stream, natural vegetation and stream’s aquatic ecosystem Backfilling and levelling of the final voids will result in the generation of dust. The carbonaceous layer that could build up during the operational phase on the R.O.M coal stockpile area, pollution control structures and the access/haul roads may contaminate rehabilitated areas if not removed before use of material or rehabilitation of the areas. The activities will result in the generation of dust, which may have negative effects on the surrounding farmers’ fields and the sensitive landscapes. Water emanating from the above-mentioned areas will be considered dirty until the carbonaceous layers have been removed and disposed of.
