Mining Project Page 69
Rehabilitation of R.O.M stockpile area,
access and haul roads, overburden
stockpile areas and dirty water
management structures.
the intended after mining land use to be
undertaken.
Runoff from the backfilled final voids may
contain elevated silt load, which will have
negative impacts on the nearby stream,
natural vegetation and stream’s aquatic
ecosystem
Backfilling and levelling of the final voids will
result in the generation of dust. This, if not
controlled, will have impacts on the
neighbouring properties.
The carbonaceous layer that could build up
during the operational phase on the R.O.M
coal stockpile area, pollution control
structures and the access/haul roads may
contaminate rehabilitated areas if not
removed before use of material or
rehabilitation of the areas. This may further
affect the shallow groundwater aquifer and
surface water within the affected areas.
The activities will result in the generation of
dust, which may have negative effects on the
surrounding farmers’ fields and the sensitive
landscapes.
Water emanating from the above-mentioned
areas will be considered dirty until the
carbonaceous layers have been removed and
disposed of.
approximate pre-mining
conditions, which is also
dependent on the standard of
rehabilitation.
Construct contours to reduce the
velocity of runoff storm water and
establish vegetation as soon as
possible after completion of the
soil placement and profiling.
Employees must be issued with
dust masks and instructed to use
them.
Dedicated haul roads must be
used and on the roads, dust
suppression must be undertaken
daily.
Remove build up carbonaceous
layer from the R.O.M coal
stockpiling areas, pollution control
structures and the access/haul
roads.
The mine must have dedicated
haul/access roads within the
rehabilitation areas and dust
suppression must be undertaken
on these roads.
Divert all storm water from this
area to the pollution control dam.
Note that the pollution control dam
will not be removed until all areas
generating dirty water are
