Ruby hard at work on <strong>the</strong> poster for <strong>the</strong> Middle School play ’Arabian Nights’<br />

Middle School News <strong>and</strong> Events<br />

Firstly, I wish you all a relaxing <strong>and</strong> enjoyable winter week<br />

holiday.<br />

This week we have welcomed back JV Boys’ Basketball Team<br />

from <strong>the</strong>ir trip to <strong>the</strong> International School of Aberdeen.<br />

Congratulations to all participants <strong>and</strong>, in particular, <strong>the</strong> 8th<br />

grade boys. Matt Wesling, Ryan V<strong>and</strong>rey, Ryan McClurg,<br />

Joe Messina, David Ramsay <strong>and</strong> Tugberk Sengezer on <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

competitive play, outst<strong>and</strong>ing behavior <strong>and</strong> great teamwork.<br />

Congratulations all-round on finishing in 3rd place Thanks<br />

go to coaches Mark Knudsen <strong>and</strong> Espen Hauksson for <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

dedication, effort <strong>and</strong> time given to this team over <strong>the</strong> season.<br />

Middle School Dance – friday, february, 13th<br />

‘A Night in Paris’<br />

Many thanks to everyone who helped make this event such a<br />

great success. There was a fantastic atmosphere, lots of great<br />

music <strong>and</strong> dancing <strong>and</strong> of course, plenty of good food <strong>and</strong><br />

drink.<br />

Congratulations to MS Student Council members: Hannah<br />

Svanberg, Marielle Langseth, Michiel van Eldik <strong>and</strong> Sonja<br />

Peacock (as well as <strong>the</strong> homeroom representatives) for <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

excellent organization prior to <strong>the</strong> event <strong>and</strong> on <strong>the</strong> evening<br />

itself. Thanks also to Ms. Long for all her time <strong>and</strong> effort as<br />

Student Council coordinator, to our excellent DJ, Mr Keereman<br />

(alias DJ. K), to <strong>the</strong> faculty chaperones <strong>and</strong> to <strong>the</strong> parents - in<br />

particular our Middle School liaison Patty Hardy. These events<br />

would not be possible without <strong>the</strong>ir expertise <strong>and</strong> time. Thank<br />

you!<br />

MS Musical (2009) – ‘Arabian Nights’<br />

The next major event in <strong>the</strong> MS calendar will be <strong>the</strong> musical<br />

‘Arabian Nights’. This production is both curricular (Wed<br />

exploratory) <strong>and</strong> extra-curricular (Wed, Thurs after school <strong>and</strong><br />

Sundays). By <strong>the</strong> time of <strong>the</strong> performances, <strong>the</strong> vast majority of<br />

our MS students will be involved in some way. The majority of<br />

our Q3 exploratories are related to this production:<br />

Lighting <strong>and</strong> Sound Exploratory<br />

Backstage Exploratory<br />

CDT Exploratory (set building).<br />

Art Exploratory (set design, painting, poster design, <strong>and</strong> t-shirt<br />

design).<br />

Publicity Exploratory (have produced <strong>and</strong> excellent website <strong>and</strong><br />

designed <strong>the</strong> program <strong>and</strong> tickets.<br />

Drama Exploratory - comprises all 65 cast members!<br />

Music Exploratory - contains <strong>the</strong> musicians who will play for<br />
