BUDDY FAMILIES
Did you move to Norway without knowing anyone? In the
school holidays? At Christmas time, Easter or during the
summer break? Would it have been nice to be able to call
someone and meet up? Would a friendly face have helped?
The confusion of relocating can sometimes be overwhelming.
As the Parent Association plays a strong part in the sociallife
of ISS families, we feel it would be good if we could take
a more active role in welcoming new families to Stavanger.
Whether this be during term time or the holiday periods, we
are aiming to set up a scheme to help newly arrived families
as they find their feet in Norway.
If you can remember how it felt, and if you feel you would
now like to help others, then you might be interested in our
new ‘Buddy Family’ scheme. We need to set up a list of
potential ‘Buddy Families’ so that we can introduce families
to each other….they may be living in the same area, or have
children of similar ages. It may involve anything from a
simple phone-call to showing people around your area or
sharing information.
we hope and believe this system will make the settlingin
process smoother and less disorientating, as well as
establishing some firm friendships. every iss parent is
automatically a member of the PA, so please do not feel
you must be a Board member to help us.
If you are interested in signing up as a potential ‘Buddy’,
contact jane.grieve@getmail.no and we will start our list.
Friends of ISS Coffee Mornings
are each and every Monday morning.
We meet in the cafeteria, and everyone is welcome to come
and join us
between 8:30am and 10:00am.
Sometimes we are busy knitting, chatting, doing craft
activities or finding out things that are happenening
locally.
We have started a Yahoo group for communications - to join
simply send an email to:
friendsofiss-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

is happening and keep up with the latest events around

Hospitality, Book Orders, Buddy Family Coordinator,
Faculty Appreciation, Athletic Liaison, Volunteer
Coordinator, and Kiosk Supplies.
