by Bishop Seymour.<br />

On Easter Sunday, 1S82, the Reverend<br />

J. G. Wright was placed in<br />

charge <strong>of</strong> the mission. He was at<br />

that time principal <strong>of</strong> the public<br />

schools in Altamont and came over<br />

vices. During the administration <strong>of</strong><br />

his predecessor a lot had been purchased<br />

on Third Street, midway between<br />

the Vandalia depot and the<br />

public square, and soon after Mr.<br />

Wright took charge, a movement<br />

was made to begin the erection <strong>of</strong> a<br />

church building. "So built we the<br />

wall for the people had a mind to<br />

work," and on the following Easter<br />

Sunday, 1SS3, the congregation assembled<br />

for the first time in their<br />

new church, a small but beautiful<br />

Gothic structure, well suited to the<br />

Grace Ei'iscopai, Cuukch, built in ISS'.<br />

needs <strong>of</strong> a small congregation.<br />

In June, 1883, the Reverend J. G.<br />

Wright moved from Altamont and<br />

took up his residence in <strong>Greenville</strong>,<br />

the first resident clergyman <strong>of</strong> the<br />

mission. He is still in charge,<br />

(1905) having complete;! twentytwo<br />

years <strong>of</strong> service. The church<br />

now has a membership <strong>of</strong> sixty.<br />

To this brief note it may well be<br />

added that much support has been<br />

given to this struggling mission by<br />

the organization <strong>of</strong> the Ladies' Aid<br />

Society. This society purchased the<br />

lot on which the church stands, and<br />

have from the very first supported<br />

every movement made to advance<br />

the church's interest. Mainly by<br />

their efforts the debt upon the<br />

church building was cancelled, thus
