at this bar has been on one side<br />
or the other <strong>of</strong> nearly every important<br />
contest. He is very fond <strong>of</strong><br />
a story and is <strong>of</strong> a sociable and courteous<br />
disposition. He and Judge<br />
Phelps have done much toward<br />
giving the county bar its deserved<br />
reputation for fairness and honesty,<br />
both toward the court, jury and<br />
clients.<br />
William A. Northcott, former<br />
Lieutenant Governor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong>, was<br />
admitted to the bar in West Virginia<br />
in 1S77 but removed to <strong>Greenville</strong><br />
W^M. H. Williams, Deceased,<br />
Fifty years a resident and business<br />
man <strong>of</strong> <strong>Greenville</strong>. Alderman from<br />
First Ward for 17 vears.<br />
Saml'el Wallace,<br />
Member J. Seaman Hardware Co.<br />
in 1S7 9 and has continued in the<br />
practice <strong>of</strong> law ever since. Shortly<br />
after coming to <strong>Greenville</strong>, he formed<br />
a partnership with Dennis H.<br />
Kingsbury which continued until<br />
Mr. Northcott was elected State's<br />
Attorney in 1SS2. He held this<br />
<strong>of</strong>lBce for three successive terms.<br />
Judge Cicero J. Lindly entered<br />
upon the practice <strong>of</strong> law in <strong>Greenville</strong><br />
in 1SS2 and held the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong><br />
county judge from 1S86 to 1892.<br />
For a time he lived on his large and<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>itable farm three miles south <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Greenville</strong>, but he has been engaged<br />

in many prominent cases. He now<br />
resides in <strong>Greenville</strong>. Judge Lindly<br />
is widely known throughout the<br />
state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong>, having been chairman<br />
<strong>of</strong> the state railroad and warehouse<br />
commission and also having<br />
received the entire Republican vote<br />
for United States Senator in 1S90,<br />
when Governor John M. Palmer was<br />
elected. Judge Lindly is an orator<br />
with a state reputation and is well<br />
grounded in the principles <strong>of</strong> law.<br />
He has been twice elected representative<br />
in the <strong>Illinois</strong> Legislature<br />
from the Forty-seventh Senatorial<br />
Phineas B. Chapman,<br />
Wiio came to <strong>Greenville</strong> in 1867, and<br />
manufactured brick until his death<br />
