The firm now known as Weise &<br />
Bradford was started by the present<br />
management in 1879 when W. V.<br />
Weise bouglit the interest <strong>of</strong> P. C.<br />
Reed, in the firm <strong>of</strong> Jandt & Reed,<br />
the name <strong>being</strong> changed to Jandt &<br />
Weise. This name was continued<br />
a number <strong>of</strong> years wlien the entire<br />
interest <strong>of</strong> Mr. Jandt was absorbed<br />
George V. Weise,<br />
Secretary and treasurer <strong>of</strong> the Weise<br />
and Bradford Corporation, and<br />
resident manager <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Greenville</strong><br />
Jarauch.<br />

by W. V. Weise & Geo. D. Bradford,<br />
who was then a member <strong>of</strong> the firm<br />
in charge <strong>of</strong> the parent store at<br />
Pocaliontas, 111., the name <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Pocahontas store <strong>being</strong> changed<br />
from H. A. Jandt & Co. to Weise,<br />
Bradford & Co., and the <strong>Greenville</strong><br />
store to Weise & Bradford. This<br />
management was continued until<br />
1S92 when Mr. Bradford opened the<br />
third Star store in Waverly, 111. At<br />
this time Henry Ballman and J. M.<br />
Appel were admitted as partners in<br />
the Pocahontas store. In 189 3 the<br />
Residence <strong>of</strong> George V. Weise.<br />
business was incorporated and<br />
Walter White and Henry Hair were<br />
admitted as stockholders in the<br />
<strong>Greenville</strong> store. In 1996 Mr. White<br />
was transferred to Vandalia. 111., to<br />
manage the fourth Star store and<br />
Chas. V. Weise and Geo. V. Weise<br />
absorbed the stock held by him. In<br />
1890 the management <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Greenville</strong><br />
store was assumed by the two<br />
latter named, Mr. W. V. Weise retiring<br />
from the active life he had<br />
led so long.<br />
