This firm is one of our largest
busii'.ess houses doing a general merchandise
business throughout the
city and entire county.
F. P. Jov & Co. in connection with
W. S. Dann & Co., whom they succeeded
without a change of management,
has done a continuous and
ever increasing business for thirtyfive
years. On the ground where
now stands the building devoted to
their general merchandise stock, in
F. P. Joy & Co.\ii'.\ny's Stoke.
1870, stood a small one room store,
where Mr. W. S. Dann, in that year,
opened a stock of general merchandise.
Within a few months Mr.
F. P. Joy, who now heads the firm,
became associated with Mr. Dann
and for the last twenty-five years
he has had the larger part of the
active management of the business.
The store, thus started in the
seventy's, soon became widely
known throughout the county. In
ISSO and again in 1886 additions
were made that more than trebled
their space. Then in 189 9 the necessity
for still further room compelled
the firm to move their clothing
stock into the large and splendidly
equipped room on the east side
of the square, known as the Kesler
building. They now have a complete
Clothing Emporium under
the management of three of the
firm's best salesmen, Mr. Harry E.
Maynard, Mr. K. E. Grigg, and Mr.
Wm. H. Fink.
In the year just passed extensive
improvements have been made in
their general store building, including
a remodeling of the shoe room,
a new office, also a rest and toilet
room and a room in the rear of the
dry goods room for their stock of
ladies' ready made garments.
