Nesselhut, T.; Liske, E. 1999. Pharmacological measures in
postmenopausal women with an isopropanolic aqueous extract of
Cimicifuga racemosa rhizoma [Abstract]. Menopause. 6(4): 331.
Evaluates the effects of a high dose of black cohosh (136 mg/day) on
28 postmenopausal patients for 98 days. No changes were observed in
endometrial thickness or vaginal cells, though 80 percent of patients
reported an improvement in symptoms after therapy. The authors concluded
that black cohosh acted as a phyto-selective estrogen receptor modulator
with a non-estrogenic effect.
