Jazz à La Villette<br />

This festival could have been called “multiple jazz”. It is a jo<strong>in</strong>t<br />

<strong>in</strong>itiative of the Cité <strong>de</strong> la Musique and Parc <strong>de</strong> la Villette, and<br />

has built itself a strong i<strong>de</strong>ntity as place with an orig<strong>in</strong>al view<br />

of jazz music. Which this year’s programme only confi rms<br />

with around thirty concerts which mix jazz with hip-hop,<br />

soul, pop and funk. It’s a bubbl<strong>in</strong>g cauldron of creativity and<br />

explosive encounters!<br />

Twelve years of magic! S<strong>in</strong>ce 2001, the Opéra en ple<strong>in</strong> air<br />

open-air tours have been produc<strong>in</strong>g traditional operas <strong>in</strong><br />

the stunn<strong>in</strong>g sett<strong>in</strong>g of historical sites. Now it’s the turn of<br />

Verdi’s Aïda. This “Egyptian-style" four-act Italian opera was<br />

commissioned to celebrate the open<strong>in</strong>g of the Suez canal<br />

and was fi rst performed <strong>in</strong> 1871 <strong>in</strong> Cairo to immediate acclaim.<br />

This year, Aïda, directed by Elie Chouraqui, is prepar<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

<strong>de</strong>light the parks of the Doma<strong>in</strong>e <strong>de</strong> Sceaux (31 May, 1 and 2<br />

June), the Château <strong>de</strong> V<strong>in</strong>cennes (13 to 16 June), the Doma<strong>in</strong>e<br />

<strong>de</strong> Fonta<strong>in</strong>ebleau (22 and 23 June) and the Cour d’Honneur<br />

at the Invali<strong>de</strong>s <strong>in</strong> <strong>Paris</strong> (7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 September).<br />
