Fancy three days of pop-rock and electronic music in a
French park to fi nish off the summer in style? Just look at
the list of rockers who will be hitting the Domaine de Saint-
Cloud: Green Day, Placebo, The Black Keys on their only
French date, the revelation of the winter, Foster the People,
the sultry Sigur Rós, Mark Lanegan with some new numbers,
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds... and plenty of surprises
to celebrate the festival’s 10th anniversary. Yes it’s true! This
festival was founded in 2003 and has become a key date on
the European calendar with its four stages, 108,000 festivalgoers
in 2011 and its programme that includes major stars

Jazz à La Villette

This festival could have been called “multiple jazz”. It is a joint
initiative of the Cité de la Musique and Parc de la Villette, and
has built itself a strong identity as place with an original view
of jazz music. Which this year’s programme only confi rms
with around thirty concerts which mix jazz with hip-hop,
soul, pop and funk. It’s a bubbling cauldron of creativity and
explosive encounters!

Twelve years of magic! Since 2001, the Opéra en plein air
open-air tours have been producing traditional operas in
the stunning setting of historical sites. Now it’s the turn of
Verdi’s Aïda. This “Egyptian-style" four-act Italian opera was
commissioned to celebrate the opening of the Suez canal
and was fi rst performed in 1871 in Cairo to immediate acclaim.
This year, Aïda, directed by Elie Chouraqui, is preparing to
delight the parks of the Domaine de Sceaux (31 May, 1 and 2
June), the Château de Vincennes (13 to 16 June), the Domaine
de Fontainebleau (22 and 23 June) and the Cour d’Honneur
at the Invalides in Paris (7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 September).
