PALAIS DE TOKYO<br />

The quirky and ambitious Palais <strong>de</strong> Tokyo<br />

is the archetypal anti-museum and<br />

breaker of conventions, and this year it<br />

will become one of Europe’s biggest sites<br />

<strong>de</strong>dicated to contemporary art. Its floor<br />

area has grown from 8000 to 22000 m 2 ,<br />

with 5000 m 2 of exhibition space, a<br />

book shop and a restaurant with its own<br />

terrace…<br />

La Triennale is the Palais <strong>de</strong><br />

Tokyo’s first large exhibition s<strong>in</strong>ce<br />

its reopen<strong>in</strong>g, and offers a broad<br />

<strong>in</strong>ventory of contemporary art,<br />

where the French scene and the<br />

powerhouses of <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

creativity come together. Outsi<strong>de</strong> the<br />

Palais <strong>de</strong> Tokyo, the exhibition spreads<br />

out <strong>in</strong>to seven associated venues <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Paris</strong> and the surround<strong>in</strong>g area.<br />

Huge cartoon strips projected<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>st its equally huge w<strong>in</strong>dows<br />

and enormous p<strong>in</strong>k balls for lights:<br />

the restaurant <strong>in</strong> the Palais <strong>de</strong> Tokyo<br />

boasts, amongst other attributes, an<br />

<strong>in</strong>credibly playful and colourful décor,<br />

cuis<strong>in</strong>e to match and an astound<strong>in</strong>g<br />

terrace look<strong>in</strong>g onto the Eiffel Tower.<br />

from Oceania, Africa, Asia and the Americas await you, as well as the Les Séductions du<br />

Palais Cuis<strong>in</strong>er et manger en Ch<strong>in</strong>e exhibition, from 19 June until 30 September and The<br />

Masters of Disor<strong>de</strong>r (Maîtres du désordre), until 29 July. The latter explores the notions<br />

of or<strong>de</strong>r and disor<strong>de</strong>r <strong>in</strong> the world, mix<strong>in</strong>g together elements of chaos, shamanism,<br />

voodoo, fetishes and works by Picasso, Messager and even Basquiat.<br />

the pioneer of the un<strong>de</strong>rground comic<br />

and <strong>my</strong>thical figure of American counterculture.<br />

<strong>summer</strong>...<br />

Christopher Wool. One of the most<br />

<strong>in</strong>fluential contemporary American<br />

pa<strong>in</strong>ters on the artistic scene is hav<strong>in</strong>g his<br />

first exhibition <strong>in</strong> <strong>Paris</strong> until 19 August.<br />

Resist<strong>in</strong>g the present.<br />

Mexico 2000/2012 will be show<strong>in</strong>g<br />

around fifty works from twenty-four<br />

politically-engaged Mexican artists until<br />

8 July.<br />

Sixty-one works by Giorgio <strong>de</strong> Chirico<br />

recently bequeathed to the museum, are<br />

on exclusive display until 1 st July.<br />

a stagger<strong>in</strong>gly high ceil<strong>in</strong>g. On the other<br />
