The heart of Paris is a delightful mixture of old stone and contemporary
architecture, narrow alleyways and wide open spaces close to the Seine.
It is home to a wonderful blend of classical art and urban culture, which

EXHIBITION
• PLAY ALONG AT
THE GAÎTÉ LYRIQUE
26 June to 5 August
Since 2011, digital culture has been
making its mark at the Gaîté lyrique
through an eclectic programme. In
Play Along, you will fi nd yourself in a
building transformed into a life-sized
playground. Your mission? To explore
new ways to play in the 21st century,
with the aid of giant board games,
construction games... and video
games, of course! Play Along is no rigid
nostalgic exhibition: instead, it relies on
the interplay between the interactive
and the theatrical, with a series of
performances and sneak previews to
crown it off.

POMPIDOU CENTRE
This colourful and futuristic cruise liner
has been sailing the seas of culture and
modern and contemporary art since
1977. On board, you will fi nd the Musée
National d’Art Moderne, theatres, a
bookshop, a designer boutique and a
rich exhibition programme.
• MATISSE. PAIRS AND SETS
Until 18 June
This retrospective exhibition sheds light
on one of the most peculiar aspects
of Henri Matisse’s work, the repetition
of the same subject or motif, through
a selection of his masterpieces. These
sixty paintings, assembled together in
some cases for the fi rst time since the
era in which they were created, bring
together different kinds of framing,
outline, brushstroke and colour. All
the main periods are represented,
from the pointillist method featuring in
Luxe, Calme et Volupté in 1904 to the
découpage of the 1950s. The artist’s
work is thus on display in its entirety,
complete with his self-probings,
breaking-offs, turnarounds and
achievements.

contemporary painting!

• ANRI SALA
Until 6 August
This exhibition, featuring four fi lms (moments captured
in Berlin, Bordeaux, Mexico City and Sarajevo) on a loop
accompanied by an amazing soundtrack, along with
sculptures, artefacts and photographs will transport
you into a kaleidoscopic universe. Anri Sala’s work
blends together images, sounds and architecture. This
installation is a presentation of all three, in keeping with
the Centre Pompidou’s approach of showcasing artists
at the forefront of the French scene.
• LE GEORGES
On the 6th and uppermost fl oor, Le Georges
restaurant, with its avant-garde décor, serves
extraordinary cocktails as well as an inventive cuisine
with a talent for reinterpreting classic dishes. It also
boasts one of the most spectacular terraces in Paris
with a breathtaking view.
