FESTIVALS OUTDOORS<br />
• 2 ND NUITS PHOTOGRAPHIQUES FESTIVAL<br />
Fridays 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 June<br />
Free entry for open m<strong>in</strong>ds. It all starts at 7pm with an aperitif at<br />
the Pavillon du Lac <strong>in</strong> the Parc <strong>de</strong>s Buttes Chaumont, with DJ sets<br />
provi<strong>de</strong>d by La Dame Noir. Then, from 10pm to midnight, it’s outsi<strong>de</strong><br />
on the lawns, where photo movies are projected onto a big screen.<br />
There are three sections to the presentation: special guests, selected<br />
photos and best artists of this emerg<strong>in</strong>g art form, somewhere<br />
between c<strong>in</strong>ema and photography. F<strong>in</strong>ally, at midnight, it’s back to<br />
the pavilion for more music and danc<strong>in</strong>g!<br />

• ET 20 L’ÉTÉ<br />
16 to 24 June<br />
The streets of the 20 th arrondissement have some<br />
surprises <strong>in</strong> store you. This open-air arts festival<br />
does what it says on the t<strong>in</strong>. It surprises you, with its<br />
dozen or so wan<strong>de</strong>r<strong>in</strong>g shows. Et 20 l’Été encourages<br />
new companies and artistic productions and also<br />
gives room to mobile shows where the audience<br />
participates. It is all about the unexpected, m<strong>in</strong>dblow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
experiences and mix<strong>in</strong>g genres.<br />

• PARC DE BELLEVILLE<br />
This park and its terrace overlook<strong>in</strong>g the city are like a<br />
little piece of heaven <strong>in</strong> the joyful disor<strong>de</strong>r of this district<br />
with its bars, bistros and music on every street corner. You<br />
will also enjoy the giant woo<strong>de</strong>n play area, the Maison<br />
<strong>de</strong> l’Air air museum, a lawn-covered hill topped with one<br />
of the biggest casca<strong>de</strong> founta<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> <strong>Paris</strong> and the city's<br />
fauna: blackbirds, tits of all k<strong>in</strong>ds and (song) thrushes.<br />

• PARC DES BUTTES CHAUMONT<br />
This has the steepest slopes of <strong>Paris</strong>' 426 parks and<br />
gar<strong>de</strong>ns, and is undoubtedly the most “English-Ch<strong>in</strong>ese”<br />
gar<strong>de</strong>n <strong>in</strong> style with its <strong>de</strong>liberate chaos. In the middle<br />
of the lake <strong>in</strong> this skilfully created disor<strong>de</strong>r of almost<br />
twenty-five hectares stands a rocky island crowned with a<br />
Temple of Sybil <strong>in</strong> the romantic style. S<strong>in</strong>ce 1867, people<br />
have been admir<strong>in</strong>g the thirty-two metre high waterfall,<br />
the cave <strong>de</strong>corated with false stalactites and the beautiful<br />
smells from exotic trees planted around the hillock. With<br />
Honey locust, Turkish hazel, Cedar of Lebanon trees<br />
and more, explor<strong>in</strong>g the Buttes Chaumont is a genu<strong>in</strong>e<br />
adventure where you meet moorhens and ducks, play<br />
areas and merry-go-rounds, slop<strong>in</strong>g lawns and groups of<br />
happy picnickers.<br />

• ROSA BONHEUR<br />
This is the place for a bite to eat, and a spot of danc<strong>in</strong>g<br />
(why not?), <strong>in</strong> the beautiful surround<strong>in</strong>gs of Buttes<br />
Chaumont. This café-cum-tea room which takes its<br />
name from a pioneer of fem<strong>in</strong>ism <strong>in</strong> the 19th century is<br />
loved by local resi<strong>de</strong>nts and has served as the park’s<br />
top-end eatery s<strong>in</strong>ce 2008 with its mix of charm and<br />
impert<strong>in</strong>ence. Its terrace with panoramic views comes<br />
highly recommen<strong>de</strong>d!<br />

• FESTIVAL SILHOUETTE<br />
1 to 9 September<br />
In 2002, a group of c<strong>in</strong>ema enthusiasts foun<strong>de</strong>d this festival of short films, which<br />
has become the biggest of its k<strong>in</strong>d <strong>in</strong> <strong>Paris</strong> - but entry is still free! Over one hundred<br />
and thirty short films <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g fictional, animated works, documentaries and music<br />
vi<strong>de</strong>os are screened un<strong>de</strong>r the beautiful starry sky of Buttes Chaumont. They are all<br />
unique works that break the mould, the result of the producer’s absolute freedom<br />
and a refusal to follow current conventions. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the daytime, Silhouette also<br />
takes over the Centquatre for screen<strong>in</strong>gs and workshops.<br />
