small sawmill on the little stream that runs through the village. There are numerous <strong>Infanger</strong>s who own small<br />

stores. There are several <strong>Infanger</strong>s buried in the church graveyard.<br />

Charles <strong>Infanger</strong> was the fourth oldest <strong>of</strong> sixteen children. As a young man he worked on the construction <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Axenstrasse- the road on the east side <strong>of</strong> Lake Lucerne. He was graduated from the Technicum in Winterthur,<br />

Switzerland as an architect.<br />

He married Catherine Imh<strong>of</strong>f about 1880 in New York. She had gone first to the United States and he had<br />

followed. He returned to Switzerland and immigrated to the United States as <strong>of</strong> February 19, 1882. He became a<br />

citizen <strong>of</strong> the United States and within five years opened his own architect's <strong>of</strong>fice. We do not know where his<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice was but by 1900 it was in East New York, a section <strong>of</strong> Brooklyn, N.Y. His <strong>of</strong>fice was in the Mechanics<br />

Bank building and was later moved to the Kiendl building at the corner <strong>of</strong> Atlantic and Pennsylvania Avenues.<br />

Charles died in 1938 and his son, Otto, continued the business until his death in 1947.<br />
