TRANSLATION OF THE SISIKON COAT OF ARMS TEA TOWEL
SISIKON, community and village; Sysinchon 1173; Sisinchun 1189; Sisinkon
1261; Zisikon 1367; in the 18 th century Sisigen. The name is derived from Siso,
farm of Sising.
The chapter of Beromünster owned here as early as 1173 lands from donations by
the Counts of Lezburg, the Fraumünster in Zurich and the monasteries of Wettingen
and Muri also held possessions there. Already
in 1223 there existed a chapel there,
which on 19 th October 1387 was given the
status of a parish church and was severed from
the mother church at Altdorf. Part of the village,
including the church, was destroyed by the torrent
in 1417; in 1447 the present parish church
was consecrated, and enlarged in 1878 In the
beginning of the 16 th century in incumbency
seems to have perished. Renewal of the parish
in 1543. Christening register since 1675, death
and marriage register since 1767. From 1798
to 1801 the community had to suffer a great
deal through the occupation by French and
Austrian troops and on account of the repeated
skirmishes between the same.
On May 14 th /15 th 1801 a huge projecting rock detached itself from the Buggisgrat and crashed into
the lake, thus causing a flood which in Sisikon
alone made fourteen victims and destroyed
many buildings. In this parish there also lies
Tell’s Chapel, the picture of which figures in the
community seal. Parish records since 1651.
