My dear Margaret,
Doubtless you have been waiting very expectantly for a reply to your dear letter of June 25. However, it
was not until today that I found time to do this. Needless to say I was glad to hear from you after such a
long lapse of silence. The enclosed article I read with great interest, and I cannot but admire, you for the
pains you have been taking to pave a way of recovery and improvement for your dear children. How
happy I should be were I in a position to give you the desired informa¬tion concerning our ancestry, but
I am afraid I will have to dis¬appoint you.
Although I was brought up in Europe, nevertheless, I had very little contact with the relatives from my
father's side. Being the youngest of the thirteen children of our family, practically all the brothers and
sisters of my father, your grandmother’s brother, had emigrated into France or America when I became
of school-age. When I was six years old my father died, a fact which removed us still farther from
contact with his relatives.
I shall, however, attempt to enumerate some of the names of my father's brothers and sisters. You
mention in your article your maternal grandmother as being one of fourteen children. You surely
received this information from a reliable source. I can re¬call but twelve names, namely:
Isidor Imhof (Father Hieronymus, O.Cap.)
Carl Joseph Imhof (my. Father)
Edward Imhof {resident in Paris) Frame is Imhof
Xaver Imhof (resident in Paris)
William Imhof
John Imhof
Andrew Imhof
Catherine Imhof (Mrs. Infanger, your grandmother)
Babette Imhof (Mrs. Baumann)
Verena Imhof (Mrs. Baumann, Mathilde's mother)
Crescenza Imhof (Mrs. Martin, Willie's and Eugene’s mother)
My sister, Mrs. Deliee, would have been the person to give you the desired information, It is possible
that even Hermine might know something about our relationship from her maternal grandfather’s side. I
do not know about my brother Louis; he might have received information from my sister, Hermine.
I have never heard from anyone that any of our relatives have had any deformity of limb or similar
affliction. Aunt Verena visited us once, when I was about nine years old, and I remem¬ber that she
limped a little, but I would not know the cause, perhaps Mathilde would.
