P. 'TOM THUMB' - One of the smaller phormiums that has greenish purple foliage. The foliage can be some what contorted which makes a more interesting plant. 1 gal. $ 15.00 P. 'YELLOW WAVE' - Has arching yellow and green striped leaves. Our biggest plants have been 2' tall and 2-3' across after several years. 1 gal. $ 18.00 PHYSOCARPUS P. 'CENTER GLOW' - A pretty ninebark that is deep purple foliaged plant with a rich golden glow in the middle of the leaf. This fast growing shrub to 8' will show well behind perennials or other shrubs in the border. 1 gal. $ 15.00 P. 'COPPERTINA' - (P.O. Mindia PPAF) A hybrid between P. 'Darts Gold' and P. 'Diablo'. The French hybrid has purple foliage with copper highlights especially in spring. We could imagine this plant as a background for perennials or other plants in the garden. 1 gal. $ 15.00 P. 'SUMMER WINE' - P. 'SEWARD' PPAF - This purple (more purple-bronze) foliaged nine bark has leaves more divided than P. 'Diablo'. This plant is much smaller (3') than P. 'Diablo', so can grow in even small perennial or shrub borders. Flowers are pinkish white in early summer. 1 gal. $ 15.00 PICEA GLAUCA 'GNOME' is a very small Alberta spruce. We have seen the species 16'-18' tall after many years. P.g. 'Gnome' is a slow grower to 2'-3' in 20 years. A perfect conifer for the rock garden or container. 1 gal. $ 14.00 PIERIS P. 'FLAMING SILVER' - It's interesting to see plants we have introduced to the U.S. gardening community become more widely available. We first grew P. 'Flaming Silver' in the early '80's and still enjoy its beautiful growth and foliage. The new growth is brilliant pink and later turns into rich variegated evergreen foliage. Very limited number of flowers. Our 25 year old plant is 2' tall. 1 gal. $ 16.00 P.'LITTLE HEATH' - This wonderful smallish shrub has small green foliage with a cream margin. We say smallish because we originally read it could get 2' tall. Our plant is more like 6'. Are we too kind to the plant? Our plant blooms only sporadically each spring! Makes an attractive sort of bonsai effect as it ages. 1 gal. $ 16.00 PINUS 'CHIEF JOSEPH'- Can't be sent to CA, FL, HI. During summer this amazing pine is dark green and in late October- November suddenly (1 week) will change to a lovely golden yellow. During winter P. 'Chief Joseph' will be a beacon of golden color. In spring our eastern Oregon native will turn back to green. Very rarely offered but P. 'Chief Joseph' is worth the expense. 1 gal. $ 80.00 PODOPHYLLUM - P. DELAVAYI - This Chinese mayapple is a clump former with deep green foliage and deep purple blotches. This woodlander has beautiful foliage and pinkish-red flowers followed by small apricot colored fruit. Can grow well with ferns and epimediums. 1 gal. $ 20.00 24 P. PLEIANTHUM has wonderous huge leaves (over 12") that look like umbrellas. This perennial has wierd purple flowers under the leaves in late spring. In late summer the fruit will turn apricot color and be the size of a small apricot. This superb plant is great to grow with ferns and other woodlanders. 1 gal. $ 20.00 PONCIRUS TRIFOLIATA 'FLYING DRAGON' - The hardy citrus is a wickedly thorned plant the thorns are 2" long and are unusual all year. P. trifoliata 'Flying Dragon' is contorted all over- leaves, thorns and stems. We have seen 5'- 6' irregular shrubs and they are always show stoppers. P. trifoliata 'Flying Dragon' is hardy to -20F so will be interesting from New York to California. 2 gal. $ 25.00 POPULUS 'RICHARDII - This golden poplar is a small growing shrubby tree. The leaves are bright gold even in full sun and are silver beneath the leaf so when the leaves twist in the breeze they glow silver and gold. 5 gal. $ 35.00 PRUNUS P. INCISA 'KOJO-NO-MAI' is a 3'-4' shrub with pink bell shaped flowers by the thousands. The small plant has a zig-zag form to the branches. Will make a good container bonsai or garden specimen with the spring flowers and orange fall color. 1 gal. $ 12.00 P. LUSITANICA 'VARIEGATA' - We have had this variegated laurel for many years, but for whatever reason we always forget to take cuttings. P. lusitanica 'Variegata' has deep green evergreen leaves with a narrow margin of white and pink. 1 gal. $ 12.00 PULMONARIA 'BENEDICTION'. Named for Seattle gardener Loie Benedict, this lungwort has dark green leaves almost year round. The flowers are among some of the deepest richest blue of any pulmonaria. The flowers and foliage are quite distinctive and once you grow P. 'Benediction' you won't want to be without it. 1 gal. $ 10.00 QUERCUS Q. DENTATA 'C.F. MILLER' - This Korean or Chinese native has a super oak leaf. When you think of an oak leaf Q. 'C.F. Miller' totally fits with it's rounded lobes. The deep green leaves turn to beautiful russet in fall. Many years the leaves will hang on and in this case that is a bonus. 1 gal. $ 50.00 5 gal. $ 78.00 Q. DENTATA 'PINNIDIFIDA' - This Japanese or Chinese native large shrub or small tree has the most amazingly different leaves. The oak leaves don't look like any oak we have ever seen. The leaves are 10" long and are lobed to the midrib. The first time we saw Q. d. 'Pinnitifida' we thought phillodendron, not oak. Just this summer we have seen plants in several gardens in the Northwest. 1 gal. $ 50.00 RHAMNUS ASPLENIFOLIA 'FINE LINE' - (R. frangula 'Ron Williams' PPAF) This plant is probably the hardiest plant we grow (to minus 35° - 40° F.) The very thin leaves are at most 1/4" wide and 4" long. The dark green foliage turns yellow in fall. This columnar plant can be a great deciduous accent for the garden or container. 1 gal. $ 28.00
RHODODENDRON - For more complete descriptions see Greer's, Guidebook to Available Rhododendrons: R. ABERCONWAYI - We haven't sold this fine species for 20+ years. R. aberconwayi is an upright grower to 6' and has deep, dark evergreen leaves that are very stiff. The white flowers will have some spots but are very flat shaped in April. 1 gal. $ 24.00 R. ALUTACEUM VAR. IODES A small shrub with felted brown indumentum. The trusses are full and rounded white. 2 gal. $ 30.00 R. 'BAMBI' X PROTIOIDES. This small grower has pink flowers in spring. The foliage is deep green with soft tan indumentum. A lovely plant year round 1 gal. $ 20.00 R. BATHYPHYLLUM. A member of the taliense series with medium green matte foliage that has rusty red indumentum under the leaves. White flowers that can have lots of spots on the petals. It is felt by our source that this plant is a natural hybrid. 2 gal. $ 24.00 R. BUREAVII X 'FABIA.' - The salmon pink flowers are beautiful addition to the deep green foliage. Our supplier says this plant must have shade to grow. 2 gal. $ 28.00 R. BUREAVII (LEM'S) The deep green leaves have deeply felted rusty indumentum that can be simply stunning. The new growth will also have rusty tomentum. R bureauvii can eventually get 6' tall and is best planted so the gardener can look up into the foliage. Flowers are white with some pink highlights. 2 gal. $ 24.00 R. BUREAVII (LEM'S) X PRONUM - As with most of our rhododendrons, this is a small growing plant with leaves and stems covered with lovely brownish-orange indumentum. 2 gal. $ 28.00 R. CATACOSMUM is a small growing (4') member of the neriiiflorum series. Leaves are 4" long that are dark green on top and have dark brown indumentum. The lovely flowers are crimson to rose in spring. 2 gal. $ 28.00 R. CONCINNUM - has vibrant glowing purple flowers in April-May. The 2" flowers occur on a small truss. The foliage is green with some purple highlighting as they leaf out. 2 gal. $ 25.00 R. EDGEWORTHIA 'BODNANT' - has a lovely cinnamon allspice scent to the flowers in April. This plant has been hardy to 0°F occasionally. The foliage is deeply veined and has a soft light tan indumentum under the leaves. The flowers are white with attractive pink and yellow flashes. 1 gal. $ 20.00 R. 'EBONY PEARL' has the richest glowing purple red glossy foliage most of the year. This sport of R. 'Pink Pearl' will have unusual pink mauve flowers in April-May. 1 gal. $ 18.00 R. FORRESTII- has rich red bell shaped flowers that are fairly large, compared to the small plant. We have seen 20 year old plants less than 6" x15". 1 gal. $ 18.00 R. 'FRAGRANTISSIMUM ' is a hybrid with large white flowers in April. The truss will have only 3 or 4 flowers, but they are large and have a superb nutmeg scent. R. 'Fragrantissimum' isn't hardy here, but will do very well in a container to move inside during cold weather. 25 1 gal. $ 20.00 . R. GLOBIDGERUM - Has amazing rusty hairs on dark green leaves. This rhododendron is grown primarily for its handsome foliage. The flowers are soft pink to white in April - May. 1 gal. $ 22.00 R. 'KEN JANECK' - Has wide leaves that are much larger than the typical rhododendron yakusimanum. The leaves are very dark green and have soft tan indumentum. Flowers are white with pink buds. 2 gal. $ 30.00 R. MACABEANUM CECIL SMITH form selfed - One of the beautiful large leafed rhododendron species. The 8-12" rounded leaves are deep green with large veins. The indumentum is white silver so will make quite an impression when the plant gets large. Our 15 year old plant is 8-10' tall and 10' wide. The trusses are rich clear yellow bells. It takes 10+ years for R. macabeanum to bloom, so the foliage is all important. R. macabeanum is hardy to about 5-10° F., but needs protection from wind. We have only a few available, so one per customer, first come, first served. 2 gal. $ 40.00 R. MAGNIFICUM - has huge, long, robust, deep green leaves. The foliage will get to 18" and have light colored indumentum. The plant can get 15'x15' in time. 2 gal. $ 35.00 R. MAKINOI has narrow (1/2") long (6") leaves that are medium green with tan indumentum under the leaves. This foliage plant will have soft pink flowers in spring. 2 gal. $ 25.00 R. MAKINOI x PACHYSANTHUM - has fairly narrow leaves with beautiful fawn colored indumentum year round 2 gal. $ 22.00 R. 'MAY MORN' X PROTEOIDES - This hybrid has yellow flowers from the 'May Morn' parent and a very dwarf form with rusty indumentum from R. proteoides. 1 gal. $ 18.00 R. MERGERATUM 'CECIL SMITH' - This dwarf rhododendron will get to 12" in time with dark green small leaves and yellow flowers with flattened petals. 1 gal. $ 15.00 R. PACHYSANTHUM - The foliage of R. pachysanthum is similar to R. pseudochrysanthum but has a lot more indumentum and tomentum. The indumentum is a more tan color rather than silver like R. pseudochysanthum. The soft pink flowers are a bonus each spring. 2 gal. $ 24.00 R. PRONUM - We have seen 18" x 18" plants of this collector's item in rhododendron collections. The leaves are larger and broader than R. protioides. Flowers are the typical pink-white of the taliensia series. 1 gal. $ 25.00 R. PROTEOIDES CECIL SMITH FORM - It is very slow growing and difficult to propagate. R. protioides is one of the smallest (if not the smallest) of all rhododendrons. Handsome, small 1/2-1" leaves have rusty colored indumentum. Make sure R. proteoides has a humus rich soil with good drainage. 1 gal. $ 28.00 R. PROTOPRON - Don't like the name but this hybrid of R. proteoides and R. pronum. There is hybrid vigor in this 2' plant. The foliage is just as beautiful as both its parents. 1 gal. $ 24.00
