B. REPLICATA - People always see this barberry and ask what it is and want it. Berberis replicata has narrow dark evergreen foliage. The new foliage is rich purple as a highlight all summer over the green mature leaves. Our plant is 8 X 9' after 20 years and has been hardy to 0° F. and a flood 3' in 1996. (A really tough plant). 1 gal. $ 12.00 B. THUNBERGII 'AUREA NANA' - This barbery has small golden yellow leaves all spring and summer. Plants will get to 2' tall and make a rounded mound of foliage. B. thunbergii 'Aurea Nana' likes some afternoon shade to keep from burning. 1 gal. $ 12.00 B. THUNBERGII 'BAGATELLE' - A purple cushion of foliage. The foliage is bright purple and turns flaming scarlet in fall. The plant will get 2' X 2' in many years. B. 'Bagatelle' is one of the smallest of the barberries. Takes bright full sun. 1 gal. $ 12.00 B. THUNBERGII 'BURGUNDY CAROUSEL' - (Berberis Baitone). A low mounded shrub with uniform growth. B. 'Burgundy 'Carousel' is larger and richer purple red foliage than Berberis 'Concorde'. 1 gal. $ 15.00 B. THUNBERGII 'CONCORDE' - This dwarf barberry has velvety rich purple foliage all summer. The plant will get to perhaps 2' tall and could be used as a low hedge or in a rock garden for a splash of purple. Found and named by Wavecrest <strong>Nursery</strong>, Michigan. 1 gal. $ 14.00 B. THUNBERGII 'HELMOND PILLAR' -The European introduction is strictly columnar 2' X 6' tall. Makes a great focal point in the perennial border or rock garden with its dark purple foliage. 1 gal. $ 18.00 B. THUNBERGII 'LIME GLOW' - A golden version of B. 'Rose Glow'. B. 'Lime Glow' has splashed golden leaves on a 3' shrub. Has attractive fall color as well as all spring through fall color. 1 gal. $ 16.00 B. THUNBERGII 'RED CHIEF' - This 6-7' barberry has glossy deep maroon leaves. Our plant has rich shiny foliage on its own or can be beautifully integrated into a perennial border. 1 gal. $ 18.00 B. THUNBERGII 'ROYAL CLOAK' -This purple leafed large plant grows up to 8' tall. The leaves are deep dark purple and at a distance look like Cotinus 'Royal Purple'. Makes a good background for perennials. 1 gal. $ 18.00 B. 'WALLICH'S PURPLE' has purple new growth that highlights this dark evergreen plant. We can't find much information but believe B. 'Wallichs Purple' will get to 2' tall. This is one of the most beautiful of the evergreen low growing barberries. 1 gal. $ 12.00 B. 'WILSONI ACE'. Not as small as we originally read. This 3-5' shrub is very distinctive with its small gray green leaves. In fall the gray leaves will turn all shades of pink, yellow and red. This plant looks great as a backdrop for B. thunbergii 'Concorde' 1 gal. $ 15.00 BERGENIA 'APPLE BLOSSOM' - This glossy evergreen perennial has white and pink flowers in early spring. Bergenia 'Apple Blossom' will slowly spread into beautiful clumps. Many bergenias can be used as borders in gravel gardens such as Beth Chatto's dry garden. 1 gal. $ 14.00 BRUNNERA B. 'JACK FROST' - The Siberian bugloss is a perennial with bright blue forget-me-not flowers in the spring. The flowers would make this plant worth growing alone, but B. 4 'Jack Frost' also has silver heart shaped leaves with deep green veining. All spring the flowers are nice. When they are finished, the foliage carries on the beauty until fall. 1 gal. $16.00 B. 'LOOKING GLASS' has heart shaped leaves that are silver all seasons. The leaves grow on a mounding perennial that does beautifully in the shaded garden. The tiny sprays of blue flowers appear in early spring. 1 gal. $ 16.00 BUXUS B. 'GRAHAM BLANDY' - This columnar boxwood gets up to 8' tall and 2' wide. Our biggest plant is 5' x 1' so makes a great focal point for this perennial border or shaded border. Needs some afternoon shade. 1 gal. $ 12.00 B. 'JOHN BALDWIN' - is a slow growing hardy boxwood that we have grown for years in our garden. Our plant is 18" tall after 15 years. The plant is as upright pyramidal form. The leaves are about 1/2 the size of B sempervirens. B. 'John Baldwin' would make a small formal hedge or a small specimen for the garden. 1 gal. $ 8.00 B. 'WATERFALL' - As the name implies, this dark green boxwood is a semi weeping form which could be staked up or allowed to irregularly grow to 3-4'. Would be nice falling over and around a large rock or wall. 1 gal. $ 15.00 B. SEMPERVIRENS 'VARIEGATA'-Eventually this boxwood gets to 8' to 10' tall. We use this variegated foliage for flower arrangements year round. Grows well in full shade or almost full sun. 1 gal. $ 12.00 2 gal. $ 19.00 CALLICARPA 'PROFUSION' - Every year we are more impressed with this beautiful, fruited plant. The green foliage appears in April followed in July by purple flowers. By October the berries turn purple and the foliage turns yellow. The lustrous purple fruit hold on all winter (until March). Best planted with a light backdrop such as a weathered fence. Wonderful when used as an informal hedge. 1 gal. $ 17.00 CALYCANTHUS C. CHINENSIS - This rarely offered shrub has large, broad, green leaves. The foliage has very heavy veining and looks evergreen even though it isn't. This recently introduced plant has white flowers with white thick-textured petals. The flowers look somewhat like a single camellia in June. 1 gal. $ 18.00 2 gal. $ 29.00 C. 'EDITH WILDER' - Found at Gertrude Wister's garden in Swarthmore, Pa. The purple flowers in summer are very sweetly scented. The fall foliage is golden yellow and adds another season to this southern native. 1 gal. $ 22.00 C. FLORIDUS 'ATHENS' ( Catherine ?). We will use C. 'Athens' as that is how we received the plant. The normal C. floridus has maroon purple flowers in early summer. C. f. 'Athens' has greenish yellow flowers about an inch and one-half wide that have cantaloupe fragrance. 1 gal. $ 28.00 C. ' HARTLAGE WINE' - Richard Hartlage hybridized Calycanthus (then sinocalycanthus) chinensis with C. flordus and created a real winner. The rich purple flowers are 2"
Calycanthus 'Hartlage Wine' cont. across beginning in June and blooming until August here. Must be pruned to make a bushier grower. If pruned is will become a 10' shrub with purple Magnolia Stellata looking flowers for a long period in summer. 1 gal. $ 28.00 C. 'VENUS' - A hybrid of C. chinensis and C. 'Athens.' The white flowers have a purplish red blush in the center. We saw a large container plant this spring that was cantaloupe scented from C. 'Venus'. This fast grower will become a nice looking shrub 8'-10' tall. 1 gal. $ 25.00 CAMELLIA All of our camellias are grown from our own stock plants so have no problem from diseases. C. 'BLACK OPEL' - We have this handsome plant again briefly, so don't wait long. The camellia has jagged margins on the dark evergreen leaves. The flowers in March - April are the deepest black maroon. The flowers are single and really show up against the glossy foliage. 1 gal. $ 24.00 C. 'BOB'S TINSIE' - We don't know who Bob is, but whoever he is he had a neat camellia named for him. Our plant grows in full sun most of the day and is 8' X 2' with deep green oval foliage. The deep red flowers are about 3" across and have a large central base of red stamens. We enjoy this camellia all year for its glossy foliage and red flowers. 1 gal. $ 24.00 C. JAPONICA 'UNRYU' - This fun camellia grows upright to possibly 6'. The foliage is typical C. japonica and the flowers are light red in early spring. However the main reason to grow C. j. 'Unryu' is for the contorted stems. The stems twist at 45° angles, which makes an interesting form. 1 gal. $ 20.00 C. WILLIAMSII 'ANTICIPATION' Similar to C. 'Donation' but much showier large 6" ruffled deep pink flowers. C. 'Anticipation' is a more upright and robust grower than C. 'Donation. 1 gal. $ 22 00 C. WILLIAMSII 'BRIGADOON' is darker color like C. 'Anticipation' but the petals are very ruffled and even larger. C. 'Brigadoon' has been hardy to 0° F. here. 1 gal. $ 24.00 C. WILLIANSII 'DONATION' - The finest of all the camellias we grow. The shrub has a rich green foliage and an upright habit. The flowers start late February and continue till mid May. The flowers are soft pink with slightly darker veins. Can grow in almost full sun here. This is a superb plant for the garden. 1 gal. $ 15.00 2 gal. $ 18.00 C. WILLIAMSII 'JURY'S YELLOW' - Not exactly yellow, but a rich cream flower covers this upright camellia. The flowers are very striking against the dark green foliage. We have sold 'Jury's Yellow' off and on for years and we regularly get compliments on its beauty from customers. 1 gal. $ 24.00 C. WILLIAMSII 'NIGHT RIDER' We hope we have enough of this beautiful foliage plant. It's flowers are small (1 1/2") and are deep purple but it's the deep purple foliage in the spring-summer. Our 'Night Rider' is only 4' tall after 15 years and would make a handsome container plant. When we've had plants of C. 'Night Rider' available in the nursery or at sales they always sell out. 1 gal. $ 24.00 5 C. WILLIAMSII 'WATERLILY' is an upright growing camellia with deep pink flowers. The individual flowers are different than any other camellia we've seen. The center petals hold together so we don't see the stamens. The cup shaped semi-double petals make an interesting looking flower. 1 gal. $ 24.00 CAMPLOTROPUS MACROCARPA - This unusual shrub is a member of the pea family and will get 4'-5' tall. This native of Korea and China will have pink-purple flowers in summer. The rounded leaves have an attractive purple blush during spring and summer. Hardy and easy to grow in well drained soil in full sun. 1 gal. $ 14.00 CAREX 'SPARKLER' - This sedge has palm-like foliage. Our plants have grown to 12-16" tall and are attractive green and white variegated foliage. Grows well in semi shade and is very attractive planted near water. 1 gal. $12.00 CARPENTERIA 'ELIZABETH' - Named for the late Elizabeth Mc Clintock of San Francisco. This excellent native shrub has been hardy here since the 70's. The narrow evergreen leaves are a good background for the snow white 2" flowers. The stamens are rich egg yolk yellow in late spring. 1 gal. $ 24.00 CARPINUS BETULUS COLUMNUS 'NANA' - We normally wouldn't be growing or selling a hornbeam but this plant is so interesting and nice we couldn't help but offer it to you. C.b. columnus 'Nana' will get 8'-10' after 15 years and has a tight columnar form. The plant feels as if it had been sheared. The deep green leaves turn a nice medium yellow in the fall. The plant makes a handsome focal point in the border or makes a neat container plant for the patio. 3 gal. $ 35.00 CEPHALANTHUS 'SPUTNIK' - Button Bush. This American native was found in Oklahoma by Steve Bieberich of Sunshine <strong>Nursery</strong>. C. 'Sputnik' has large white-pink flowers with long white stamens in summer. A tough, easy to grow native to about 8-10 ' tall. 1 gal. $ 14.00 CERCIDIPHYLLUM C. 'GRACEFUL GRACE' - This katsura tree came to us from Louisville, KY, through the tree planter extraordinaire, Mike Heyman. Mike showed us this large weeping tree when we went to Louisville several years ago. C. 'Graceful Grace' will get 30-40', so not for the small garden but an incredible tree for the large garden or park. 2 gal. $ 45.00 C. 'HERONSWOOD GLOBE'. Chosen by Dan Hinkley for its smaller size as compared to C. japonicum. This is a round tree to perhaps 25' in time. The leaves are round and light green all summer. In fall the leaves will turn yellow and pink and have a glorious scent before falling. 2 gal. $35.00 C. JAPONICUM 'PENDULUM' - The Weeping Katsura tree. Fifteen feet seems to be the ultimate height. The blue tinged foliage turns yellow in September. Never seems to form a leader. 1 gal. $ 35.00 C. JAPONICUM 'RASPBERRY' - This katsura tree has the typical foliage each spring and summer. In other words the foliage is the usual gorgeous purple in spring followed by dark green in summer. The fall foliage is yellow with rich pink overtones.
