Our young plants seem to be vigorous, but will fill out soon. The foliage is dark purple even late in the summer. Would be beautiful in the garden or large container. 5 gal. $ 65.00 A. PALMATUM 'PURPLE GHOST' - Deep purple veins are almost black. The leaves change throughout purple to almost pink at the margins. By late summer the leaves are almost totally purple. This ghost will grow in full sun or semishade. 1 gal. $ 42.00 ACER PALMATUM 'RED DRAGON'. This maple came to us indirectly from Duncan & Davies in New Zealand. The dissected leaves are darker red than A. 'Crimson Queen' and hold the color later into the summer. This lace leaf will turn a smaller mound shaped form than A. p. 'Crimson Queen'. Great red fall foliage in October. 2 gal. $ 45.00 A. PALMATUM 'SANGO KAKU'- The Coral Bark Maple is a plant we always get calls for. This stunning upright Japanese Maple will have brilliant coral-red stems fall-spring. The green foliage will turn yellow in the fall. 1 gal. $ 35.00 A. PALMATUM 'SHISHIGASHIRA' - Lions Mane Maple has small deep green leaves that are twisted and crimped at their margins. The leaves will form clumps on the plant making an artistic effect. In fall the foliage turns deep yellow-orange. Our 40 year old plant is 15' X 8' without any pruning. 2 gal. $ 45.00 A. PALMATUM 'SKEETERS BROOM'. This plant is a sport of A. p. 'Bloodgood' which will get 4-5' tall rather than the 20' of A. p. 'Bloodgood. The bright red new growth will turn purple later in the summer. In fall the foliage will turn beautiful red. 1 gal. $ 45.00 A. PALMATUM 'UKIGUMO' - Truly a stunning foliage plant. The plant has green leaves when young. As the plant matures growth slows, the leaves become spotted with white. Later the leaves become mostly white and from a distance it looks like a white shrub or small tree. PENNSYLVANICUM 'ERYTHROCLADUM' - The "Moosewood" is a striped bark maple from Pennsylvania similar to Acer davidii, hersi, etc. The main difference is that A. p. 'Erythrocladum' has startling brilliant red bark in winter. A. 'Erythrocladum' is still a rare tree because of its slow growth and difficulty of grafting. 1 gal. $ 45.00 A. PSEUDOPLATANUS 'ESK SUNSET' - (formerly A. 'Eskimo Sunset') This moderate 20' tree has simply stunning foliage. The maple leaves are dark purple underneath and are deep green splashed with white and pink above. In the sun the leaves absolutely glow with the purple and pink. An A. 'Esk Sunset' is always a conversation piece. 2 gal. $ 78.00 A. RUFINERVE ERYTHROCLADUM - This fine striped bark maple is different than A. penn. 'Erythroclaum' so don't be confused. We were able to find a small number. Plants seem to be bushy and full to maybe 20-25'. SHIRASAWANUM 'AUREUM' - This gorgeous maple has golden foliage all summer. In the fall the leaf is even more beautiful having yellow leaves with red margins. 1 gal. $ 46.00 Large sizes available up to 8' at nursery only. A. SHIRASAWANUM 'AUTUMN MOON' - Similar to A. s. 'Aureum' but this small tree has handsome pinkish accents on the new foliage. The accents seem to hold most of the summer and turn a beautiful gold in the fall. 1 gal. $ 46.00 ACTEA 'HILLSIDE BLACK BEAUTY' - This dark purple foliaged bug bane will make a clump 18" tall and 24" wide shrub. The flowers appear on 4' stems in late summer. Actea 'Hillside Black Beauty' will make a lovely color accent for the woodland garden or perennial boarder. 1 gal. $ 14.00 AESCULUS HIPPOCASTANUM 'LACINIATA' is a shrubby plant with very dissected narrow leaves of a chestnut. We don't know how big the plants will be but they are extremely slow in containers. Very limited availability. 1 gal. $ 44.00 AGAPANTHUS A. 'ELLAMAE' - This is said to be one of the largest growing of the agapanthus. The deep blue flowers are in umbles in late July and will make a beautiful bridge from the mid summer to the late summer flowers. From our growing these agapanthus for many years, they will defoliate most winters and will survive down to 5° F. 1 gal. $ 14.00 A. 'GAYLE'S LILAC' - is a low growing agapanthus that attracts attention each July-August. This baby blue flowered plant blooms heavily on 1' stems. A. Gayle's Lilac makes a good container plant or a sunny boarder. 1 gal. $ 14.00 A. 'GRAS KOP'- This selection of A. inapertus has deep blue pendulous flowers in midsummer. This plant was named and introduced by the Kirstenbosch Botanic Garden in South Africa. We don't know the hardiness yet but this plant would make an excellent container plant or plant for the milder garden. 1 gal. $ 14.00 A. 'STORMCLOUD '- According to Wim Snoeijer's book, this plant no longer exists, but whatever this excellent plant is named, it is a keeper. The rich navy blue flowers appear on 2' stems in August. We have grown A. 'Stormcloud' for 20 years and it has been consistently hardy (0 F) and beautiful. 1 gal. $ 12.00 AGAVE A. 'JAWS' - This Agave makes a superb container plant in cooler climates. Its biggest need is for a very fast draining soil. 1 gal. $ 18.00 A. PARRYI 'HUACHENSIS' - will make a rounded clump of gray-green leaves. A. 'SHARKSKIN SHOES' - This hybrid is from the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek, CA (P.S. If ever in the area make an appointment to see this stunning garden). The upright growing leaves are olive green and will get 3'x3' in time. 1 gal. $ 15.00 ALBIZZIA 'SUMMER CHOCOLATE' - The Silk Tree is a broad growing tree with pinnate leaves. The pink clouds of flowers appear in midsummer. This cultivar has deep purple pinnate leaves all summer. We don't know how large A 'Summer Chocolate' will get, but even a small plant is very handsome, whether in the garden or a large container. Limited 2 gal. $ 38.00 ANDROMEDA A. 'BLUE ICE' - has narrow, dusty blue foliage on a 1' tall plant that will grow to 2' wide. The flowers are little white urns that cover the plant in April. Needs good drainage and full sun to semi-shade. 1 gal. $ 14.00 A. 'KIRIGAMINE' -Has dark green leaves that are even thinner than A. 'Blue Ice.' The flowers are light pink in April- May. Makes a good ground cover around rhododendrons. 1 gal. $ 14.00 ARAUCARIA ARAUCANA - Monkey Puzzle from Southern Chile has very sharp, pointed needles. This interesting plant is rarely offered for sale. These are small but well rooted plants. 1 gal. $ 30.00 ARBUTUS A. 'MARINA' - This garden worthy madrone is probably a cross of two European species of arbutus. The stems peel to reveal the orange-copper bark. A. 'Marina' needs good drainage and a moderate climate, such as coastal condition of Northwest or California. We once saw a big plant at the Victor Reiter, Jr. garden in San Francisco and it was a stunning tree. 1 gal. $ 25.00 A. UNEDO COMPACTA - 10' shrub that will have deep green, evergreen foliage. In fall, the small white urnshaped flowers cover the plant. At the same time the flowers appear, the fruit from last years flowers show up in red clusters. 1 gal. $15.00 A. UNEDO 'ELFIN KING'- is a small (8'-12') evergreen shrub. The white flowers appear in fall and winter. The fruit are 1/2" wide and look like round strawberries, hence the name. This year-round shrub has some attractive feature all the time. 1 gal. $ 15.00 ARCTOSTAPHYLOS A. DENSIFLORA 'HOWARD MCMINN' - This manzanita has gray green foliage on a 3'-5' shrub. The light pink flowers are a nice addition to a pretty shrub. 1 gal. $ 18.00 A. DENSIFLORA 'SENTINEL' - This hardy California native has deep green evergreen leaves on a 5' - 6' shrub. The bark will peel off revealing a coppery orange under bark. Has been hardy to 0° F. with good drainage. 1 gal. $ 18.00 A. 'PACIFIC MIST' - This low grower (2'-3') will have narrow gray leaves. A. 'Pacific Mist' is a handsome, large scale groundcover which will get 8'-10' across. After watering the first couple of years, it does not require water here. 1 gal. $ 18.00 3 A. 'SUNSET' - is a 4'-5' irregular shrub with dark green leaves. The bark will peel off in time, making an excellent display year round. 1 gal. $ 18.00 ARISAEMA A. CANDIDISSIMIM - The latest of the jack in the pulpits to emerge. The lovely pink flowers are borne in June followed by large glossy leaves. 1 gal. $ 25.00 A. FRANCHETIANUM 'HUGO' - is one of Tony Avent's hybrids. This plant has large leaves that look totally tropical with their dark green, broad foliage. The flowers can get up to 15" tall in late spring and have purple and white hooded flowers. A.f. 'Hugo' will not start to grow until June, so don't think your plant has died. 1 gal. $ 25.00 AUCUBA 'ROZANNIE' - This evergreen shrub is THE plant for that dark spot in your garden. Aucuba 'Rozannie' has glossy dark green foliage. The fruits are large and bright red. We heartily recommend this great evergreen. 1 gal. $ 15.00 AZARA MICROPHYLLA 'VARIEGATA' has the same small leaves as the species, but A. m. 'Variegata' has broad yellow margins. 1 gal. $ 15.00 BAPTISIA B. 'CAROLINA MOONLIGHT' - This soft yellow false indigo makes a mounding plant up to 2' X 2'. Once established B. 'Carolina Moonlight' is extremely hardy and long lived. Never needs to be divided or fussed with. This is essentially a perennial lupine with 2' tall flowers. 1 gal. $ 14.00 BERBERIS B. 'AMSTELVEEN' - A 2-3 foot evergreen barberry with an arching habit. The outer stems slightly cascade. The glossy green leaves have a beautiful silver tomentum on the undersides. Flowers are light yellow. 1 gal. $ 12.00 B. CALLIANTHA - This evergreen barberry has dark green foliage with silvery tomentum. The flowers are yellow and look like small daffodils. 'Pow Wow' which we hoped it was better than it turned out to be. B. 'Gold Pillar' looks great! 1 gal. $ 18.00 B. 'ORANGE KING' - Has dark evergreen rounded leaves. The leaves make the perfect foil for the rich orangish flowers in early spring. 2 gal. $ 22.00 B. 'RED JEWEL' will grow to 2-3' tall in time.
