KANIUK, Charles P.<br />
KANIUK – Charles P., Chambersburg, formerly of Cairnbrook, died Jan. 23, 2008, at<br />
home. Born June 28, 1951, son of the late John and Mary (Satkovich) Kaniuk. Survived<br />
<strong>by</strong> wife, the former Mary Ann Banish, and children, Russell, Colorado; Bryan, and wife,<br />
Michele, Indiana; Melissa, and husband, John, Chambersburg; Michael, Central City; and<br />
Matthew, Virginia. Brother of John A., and wife, Rosemary, and Mary L., and fiance,<br />
Michael. Also survived <strong>by</strong> six grandchildren, a number of loving and caring in-laws,<br />
including Joan and Charles, and dear relatives and friends. Friends will be received from<br />
2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, where brief service will be<br />
held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, followed <strong>by</strong> funeral service at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Russian<br />
Orthodox Church, the Very Rev. John Govrusik. Committal, parish cemetery. Parastas<br />

KANIUK, John<br />
KANIUK – John, 78, Windber, went to be with the Lord Feb. 16, 2012, at Windber<br />
Hospice. Born Dec. 24, 1933, in Central City, son of the late George and Susan (Rubick)<br />
Kaniuk. Survived <strong>by</strong> wife of 50 years, Carolyn M. (Charnego) Kaniuk;<br />
daughter, Patricia Marie Cover, Windber, and fiance, Steve Simanski;<br />
son, Eric J. Kaniuk, Windber; and grandchildren, Jonathan Beskid; Jarid<br />
and Jude Cover; and Austin, Brooke and Cody Simanski. Also survived<br />
<strong>by</strong> sisters, Mary, wife of George Mikitka, Windber; Rose, wife of<br />
Deacon Robert Conjelko, Windber; and Kathryn, wife of Andrew<br />
Swedler, Johnstown; brother-in-law, Michael Charnego, and wife,<br />
Sheila, Homer City; and special uncle, who was like a brother to John, Steve Hodownes,<br />
and wife, Elizabeth, Rochester, N.Y.; also several nieces and nephews. John was a U.S.<br />
Army veteran, having driven for the Adjutant General, and while in the service played<br />
baseball, having never struck out. Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown,<br />
environmental department with 30 years of service. He was owner and operator of John’s<br />
Barber Shop, Windber. He was a barber for more than 50 years, having cut more than<br />
four generations of hair. He thoroughly enjoyed his customers, who were all his friends,<br />
and all of their fishing and hunting stories. John was a loving husband, father and<br />
grandfather who was an avid hunter and fisherman, having been awarded a certificate for<br />
one of the largest deer antler spreads in the state of Pennsylvania. He especially enjoyed<br />
being out on his boat with his children and grandchildren. Member of SS. Peter & Paul<br />
Orthodox Church, Windber, where John was a past member of the church board and<br />
choir. He was on the new church building committee and was a volunteer in the church<br />
kitchen and at the church picnics. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at William<br />
Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber, where funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. A<br />
brief service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed <strong>by</strong> Divine<br />
Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Windber, the Very Rev.
