Wells, Houston, Texas; Michael, married to the former Linda Carney, Baltimore, Md.;<br />
Mary, wife of Thomas Malcotti, Indiana; Helen, wife of James Hallahan, Cleveland,<br />
Ohio and Barbara, wife of Stephen Oblinsky, Nanty Glo. Also surviving are 15<br />
grandchildren. She was a sister of Catherine Ando, Ridgeville Park, N.J.; Mary Anodide,<br />
San Juan, Puerto Rico; Joseph, Westwood, N.J.; Margaret Burns, New Milford, N.J., and<br />
Dorothy Casper, Nanty Glo. Mrs. Kowal was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church,<br />
Nanty Glo and the Altar-Rosary Society. Friends were received at the Harry R.<br />
Ondriezek II Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where the rosary was recited Tuesday evening.<br />
Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church <strong>by</strong> the<br />
Rev. John Neugebauer. Interment followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Portage. (The<br />

KOWAL, Michael J.<br />
Michael J. Kowal of 711 Bloom Ave., Nanty Glo, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 1994, at<br />
Conemaugh Hospital. He was 90. Born Nov. 17, 1904, in Smoke Run, he was a son of<br />
Michael and Tekla (Orlosky) Kowal. He was preceded in death <strong>by</strong> his parents; wife, the<br />
former Helen Tursky; brothers, Nicholas, John and Martin; and sister, Mary Harchak.<br />
Surviving are these children: Natalie, wife of Robert Wells, Houston, Texas; Michael,<br />
married to the former Linda Carney, Ellicott City, Md.; Mary, wife of Thomas Malcotti,<br />
Indiana, Pa.; Helen, wife of Luke Michelbacher, Nanty Glo; and Barbara, wife of Stephen<br />
Oblinsky, Nanty Glo. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters;<br />
sisters and, Ann Slinkosky, Coalport; Helen Parsons, Brooklyn, Mich.; Catherine Daley,<br />
Blairstown, N.J.; and brother, Peter and his wife, Marie, Smoke Run. A retired coal<br />
miner, Mr. Kowal was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo; the<br />
Holy Name Society of St. Mary's and UMWA Local 1386, Nanty Glo. Mass of Christian<br />
Burial was celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 6 at St. Mary's Church <strong>by</strong> the Monsignor John<br />
Little. Interment followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Portage. Arrangements were in<br />
charge of the Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo. (The Journal, Nanty Glo,<br />

KOWAL, Peter<br />
Smoke Run - Peter Kowal, 93, of Smoke Run, died Thurs Nov. 16, 2000, at the Clearfield<br />
Hospital. Born June 20, 1907 in Smoke Run, he was a son of Michael and Tekla<br />
(Orlosky) Kowal. Mr. Kowal was a retired coalminer. He was a member of the UMW.<br />
On Nov. 1, 1952 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, he wed Maria (Karabin)<br />
Kowal of Smoke Run. In addition to his wife, he is survived <strong>by</strong> a daughter, Marianne<br />
Kowal Himes of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Bonnie Himes of Savannah, Ga.,<br />
Brenda Himes of Seattle, Wash., and Jennifer Himes of Boca Raton, Fla.; two sisters<br />
Catherine Daly of Blairstown, NJ and Helen Parson of Lapeer, Mich., and a number of<br />
nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death <strong>by</strong> his parents; two sisters, Mary Harchak<br />
and Anna Slinkosky; and four brothers, John, Martin, Nick and Mike. Divine Liturgy will<br />
be served <strong>by</strong> the Very Rev. Canon James E. Poorman at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic<br />
Church, ! Ramey, on Monday at 11 a.m. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.<br />
Sunday and on Monday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home,
