neglected fruit for a bright tomorrow. From Karnataka: <strong>Kokum</strong> the future crop and<br />

Garcinia- a gold mine in the forest. From Goa: Some medicinal uses <strong>of</strong> Garcinia indica.<br />

A <strong>Kokum</strong> exhibition was also organized for the fruits and processed products category.<br />

Large number <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kokum</strong> types were displayed in the exhibition. The first and second prize<br />

for the fruit samples were bagged by cultivators from Maharashtra whereas the third prize<br />

was shared by the cultivators from Goa and Maharashtra. In the processed products<br />

category, the first and third prizes were awarded to processors <strong>of</strong> Maharashtra and the<br />

second prize was bagged by a processor from Karnataka.<br />

The 1st seminar generated tremendous enthusiasm among the cultivators and the <strong>Kokum</strong><br />

processors. For the first time it brought together people from the <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Ghats</strong> states on a<br />

single platform for a common cause. It helped in networking the various role players in the<br />

four states. The experience gained from this seminar was useful in conceptualizing the 2nd<br />

National Seminar.<br />
