Mack E. Hershberger<br />

Oct. 14, 1928 – Feb. 13, <strong>2002</strong><br />

Mack E. HERSHBERGER, 73, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday in his Bourbon home.<br />

Born in Bourbon to Charles and Alma STEINMAN HERSHBERGER, he married Martha<br />

CLAUSS Nov. 8, 1952. She survives.<br />

Mr. Hershberger, a life-long Bourbon resident who wintered in Avon Park, Fla., retired<br />

from Bendix Corp., South Bend, in 1983 after 35 years and farmed for more than 25 years. He was<br />

a member of the Country Church, Bourbon, and graduated from Bourbon High School in 1947. He<br />

enjoyed fishing, hunting and his woodshop.<br />

Mr. Hershberger earned a Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean<br />

War.<br />

Surviving with his wife are son Richard and wife Kathleen HERSHBERGER, Rochester;<br />

sisters Kathryn TEEL, Mentone, and Frances WILLIAMS, Rochester.<br />

Preceding in death was sister Eleanor HOOVER.<br />

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Country Church, Bourbon. Burial will follow<br />

at the Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and one hour before services<br />

Saturday at the Church.<br />

Memorials may be made to the Country Church, a hospice or to a charity of one’s choice.<br />

Deaton Funeral Home, Bourbon, is handling arrangements.<br />

David E. SMITH, 49, 13364 E. <strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong> Road 225 South, Akron, died today at<br />

Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne. Arrangements are pending at Foster & Good Funeral<br />

Home, Akron.<br />

Feb. 14, 1953 – Feb. 14, <strong>2002</strong><br />

David Edward SMITH, 49, Akron, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday at Parkview Memorial<br />

Hospital, Fort Wayne.<br />

Born in Indianapolis to George E. and Helia GREEN SMITH, he came to the Akron<br />

community in 1987 from the North Manchester and Peru areas.<br />

Mr. Smith was a core machine operator for the Warsaw Foundry and a member of the<br />

National Rifle Association.<br />

He was preceded in death by his father.<br />

Survivors include mother Helia M. and husband Frank WHYBREW, Peru; daughter<br />

Holli D. SMITH and grandson Hayden R. SMITH, at home; sisters Mary and husband Mike<br />

KELLEY, Gillette, Wyo., and Nancy SMITH, Indianapolis; nephew Sean KELLEY, Gillette,<br />

Wyo.<br />

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at the Foster and Good Funeral Home, Akron. Friends<br />

may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.<br />

Memorials may be made to the Everest Memorial Gardens, Logansport.
