HALO SOUND LOCATION SYSTEM SUMMARY
The procurement of the HALO System meets our Armed Forces need to
enhance their location capability through sound, as we only counted on
the Soras 6E system. This new sound equipment improves GAIL performance
as far as sound location and detection are concerned, providing
round-the-clock cover beyond the line of sight on 360º
This is a system already being used by several countries in our environment,
which has been tested in different scenarios and recent conflicts.
It will serve not only to improve the protection of the bases and the forces
deployed in the theatre of operations (TO) but also to increase the
survivability of radar assets, as they are activated when they are put on
alert with the HALO System.
UPGRADING OF THE 35/90 GDF005 SIMULATOR
The modernization of the 35/90 GDF005 gun simulator puts an end to a
major upgrading process of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery simulators located
in the Artillery School (Mistral and 35/90 GDF005). These are systems
with high profitability used by nearly 400 gun layers/gunners each year.
As this upgrading has been carried out with Spanish technology, and
thanks to the maintenance contracts signed, its continuous operability
and performance are ensured.
WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF FIELD ARTILLERY MUNITIONS?
“After a brief revision of traditional Artillery missions and assets,
which are still fully valid, we get immersed in a technological world in
pursuit of munitions that are more accurate and efficient so as to try
and reduce collateral damage to a minimum. A new concept of Artillery
that must coexist with the former one, which is seen as the future
challenge of our Branch.”
AIA-IYA 2009. THE SUNDIAL
The author of the article, taking advantage of the fact that 2009 was
declared the International Year of Astronomy, has decided to join this
celebration with a lecture on practical astronomy, as is the explanation
of the theoretical cornerstone principles of the sundial, and the
empirical making of one of those based on scientific calculations.
ARTILLERY PROPELLING CHARGES
It should not be forgotten that a weapon system is defined as “the weapon
and the collection of elements required for its use on a target”,
and ammunition is one of them, with the propelling charge being a
part of it. Therefore, the evolution of Gun Muzzles is hardly any use if
it does not go together with a parallel evolution of munitions and their
propelling charges.
Historia
THE ALCAZAR AND ARTILLERY PEOPLE
The article explains the mishaps of the Alcazar of Segovia during the
period of time covering from the dreadful fire it suffered on March 6th
1862, and the actions taken by the Artillery Corps and some other institutions
in order to recover it, to February 20th 1909. A number of
different orders concerning the effective handover of the Alcazar to artillerymen
are mentioned in it, as well as some other attempts to dispose
and transfer it by different ministries.
ARTILLERY DEPLOYMENT AT CARTAGENA HARBOUR (SPAIN) DU-
RING THE XIXth CENTURY
The aim is to highlight the heritage richness that is represented by
XIXth century defensive military architecture in Cartagena Harbour,
an important Mediterranean naval base, now out of operation, declared
as “Sitio Histórico” (Historic Site) by the Spanish Historic Heritage
Law, and which constitutes a usage and enjoyment value for the people
as a whole, as it gives testimony of both the defensive effort and
the evolution of fortification techniques.
