por FAEs, el médico y <strong>los</strong> padres deben saberel porqué, realizar todos <strong>los</strong> estudiospara determinar la etiología de la epilepsiay eventualmente realizar una cirugía.Los hallazgos clínicos de casos operadosy las etiologías son diferentes en las seriespediátricas comparadas a <strong>los</strong> adultos.La Organización Panamericana de Salud(OPS) lanzó el 2011 una estrategía y plande acción sobre las Epilepsias en la región,cuyo objetivo es mejorar el diagnóstico ytratamiento de las personas con epilepsiaen las Américas (31). <strong>Chil</strong>e tiene un compromisoadquirido con las autoridadesmundiales, para mejorar la calidad de vidade las personas con epilepsias, especialmentea <strong>los</strong> más necesitados, como son <strong>los</strong>niños.En <strong>Chil</strong>e existen centros básicos y avanzadosde epilepsia, donde se pueden realizartodos <strong>los</strong> procedimientos de cirugía de laepilepsia en niños. El gran desafio está enpoder ofrecer esta gran herramienta terapéuticaa toda la población, por su altoimpacto en la calidad de vida de <strong>los</strong> pacientesy sus familias. Por otra parte es costobenéfico para el estado, ya que logra reincorporara niños a una vida normal e independienteen la gran mayoría de <strong>los</strong> casos,con lo cual se ahorran grandes cantidadesde recursos. El desafío está planteado y dependeen gran medida de las autoridadessolucionar el problema a miles de niños en<strong>Chil</strong>e portadores de epilepsias refractariasy susceptibles de tener un tratamiento quirúrgicopara curarla.REFERENCIAS BIBLIOGRÁFICAS1.
