Autor de contacto: lozano.monica@inifap.gob.mx Recibido: 07/agosto/2017 Aceptado: 17/septiembre/2017 Publicado: 30/septiembre/2017 RESUMEN El resultado de más de 10 años de investigación y de mejoramiento genético realizado en el INIFAP, dio como producto las primeras variedades criollas mejoradas conversas a calidad proteínica para el sistema de producción de roza-tumba-quema que han sido denominadas Sac Beh y Chichén Itzá, las cuales presentan un contenido de lisina y triptófano, superior en un 50% al de los maíces criollos. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el comportamiento agronómico en el ciclo otoñoinvierno 2016-2017 bajo condiciones de riego. Las variedades Sac Beh y Chichen Itzá presentan un ciclo tardío de 130 a140 días de siembra a cosecha, son de porte alto. El peso de la mazorca en Sac Beh representa el 44 % del total de la Biomasa y Chichen Itzá el 37 %. Bajo condiciones de riego en el ciclo O-I el rendimiento de 4500 Kg/ha para Sac Beh y 4000 Kg/ha para Chichen Itzá. Palabras clave: Maíz QPM, micorriza, densidad de siembra. ABSTRACT The result of more than 10 years of research and genetic improvement carried out at INIFAP resulted in the first creole varieties improved protein quality conversations for the slash-and-burn system that were named Sac Beh and Chichén Itzá, which have a content of lysine and tryptophan, 50% higher than those of Creole maize. The objective of the present work was to evaluate the agronomic behavior in autumn-winter cycle 2016-2017 under irrigation conditions. The Sac Beh and Chichen Itzá varieties present a late cycle of 130 to 140 days from planting to harvesting, in addition to presenting a high bearing. The weight of the cob in Sac Beh represents 44% of the total biomass and Chichén Itzá 37%. Under irrigation conditions in the O-I cycle the yield is 4500 kg / ha for Sac Beh and 4000 kg / ha for Chichén Itzá. Key words: Maize QPM, mycorrhiza, seed density. INTRODUCCIÓN En México, la mayoría de los genotipos de maíz poseen una calidad nutritiva baja, debido a la deficiencia de dos aminoácidos esenciales; lisina y triptófano (Reyes, 1990; Mendoza et al., 2006a). Ante este problema se llevaron a cabo investigaciones para generar maíces con alta calidad proteica (CIMMYT, 2001), conocidos como “maíces de calidad proteínica” (o QPM, del inglés quality protein maize). Los maíces de alta calidad proteica (QPM) son cultivares portadores del gen opaco-2, que promueve una reducción del contenido de zeína e incremento de la glutelina. Llegan a duplicar las cantidades de lisina y triptófano, y lo convierte en maíz con valor nutritivo superior al maíz convencional, además de contener la textura y el sabor que a los consumidores les gusta (Ortega et al., 1986). Con el fin de contribuir al combate de la desnutrición, investigadores del Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias (INIFAP) y el Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT), desde 1996 han desarrollaron y liberaron maíces de alta calidad proteica (APC), los cuales contienen hasta 100% más lisina y triptófano que los maíces comunes; de hecho, la calidad proteínica de los maíces QPM es similar a la de la leche (Bressani, 1994; Espinosa et al., 2001; Ortega et al., 2001; Palafox et al., 2003; Vázquez et al., 2005). En este sentido se generaron maíces con alta calidad de proteína, los cuales se adapten a la región tropical en el sureste mexicano, con ventajas agronómicas y mejor rendimiento con respecto a los testigos, factores que representan una alternativa favorable para incrementar los rendimientos de maíz y mejorar la nutrición de los consumidores (Sierra et al., 2008).
