Abstract
This methodological-biographical exercise brings my experience in the field of biography
whose axis of analysis is the emotions of Laura Mantecón (1845-1900), a brave woman
who dared to file a divorce lawsuit against her husband, the former president of Mexico,
Manuel González. To do this, I use various theoretical concepts of the history of emotions
and feelings and of psychology and narrative that helped me ground Laura’s moods
and passions. I intertwine fragments of the historical contexts (including the legal one)
in which Mantecón lived with his emotional experience manifested in the form of anger,
resentment and revenge (among others), and somatized in the disease of catalepsy.

Resumen
Este ejercicio metodológico-biográfico aporta mi experiencia analiza las emociones de
Laura Mantecón (1845-1900), una aguerrida mujer que se atrevió a levantar una demanda
de divorcio contra su marido, el ex presidente de México, Manuel González. Utilizo varios
conceptos teóricos de la historia de las emociones y los sentimientos y de la psicología y
narrativa que me ayudaron a aterrizar sensaciones y pasiones de Laura. Entrelazo fragmentos
de contextos históricos (incluido el jurídico) en los cuales vivió Mantecón con
su experiencia emocional manifestada en forma de ira, resentimiento y venganza (entre
otras), y somatizada en la catalepsia.
