Abstract
The work takes a tour of the process of researching biographies of women from
the first half of the 20th century in frontier spaces. It is an autoethnography that
seeks, from situated knowledge, to explore the concept of serendipity to situate the
experience of writing biographies of women like Ethel Duffy Turner, by resorting to
concepts and categories such as the transnational. Finally, the text offers possibilities
and challenges for writing from the self, situating our research recognizing the
contingency of subjectivities, crossroads, findings and surprises in historical research.

Resumen
El trabajo hace un recorrido por el proceso de investigación de biografías de mujeres
de la primera mitad del siglo XX en espacios de frontera. Es una autoetnografía que
busca, desde el conocimiento situado, explorar el concepto de serendipia para situar
la experiencia de escribir biografías de mujeres como Ethel Duffy Turner al recurrir
a conceptos y categorías como lo transnacional. Finalmente, el texto ofrece posibilidades
y retos para la escritura desde el yo, situando nuestra investigación y reconociendo
la contingencia de las subjetividades, encrucijadas, hallazgos y sorpresas en
la investigación histórica.
