Mercy Ships brings hope and
healing to the poor
S
ince 1978, about three million people have
received help from Mercy Ships, including 56,000
who have undergone operations aboard one of its
hospital ships.
After being docked in Togo over spring 2012, the Africa
Mercy, the largest private hospital ship in the world, will visit
the West African country of Guinea, arriving this August. Tens
of thousands of people will receive life-saving operations and
medical treatment. In addition, the local populace will also
receive information, training and education in various fields.
The 450 Mercy Ships volunteers, from about 30 different
countries, are committed individuals dedicated to bringing
hope and healing to the poor. Many of these volunteers
are transported by Brussels Airlines to various destinations
in Africa. As well as taking care of their own travel and
accommodation expenses, the volunteers also offer their
professional services for free to the poorest communities
in the world.

personnes dans le besoin
Depuis 1978, trois millions de personnes environ ont reçu de l’aide des
Mercy Ships, dont 56.000 ont subi des opérations à bord de ces
navires-hôpitaux.
Après avoir fait escale au Togo tout au long du printemps 2012,
l’Africa Mercy, le plus grand navire hôpital privé au monde, visitera la Guinée, en
Afrique de l’Ouest, à partir du mois d’août prochain. Des dizaines de milliers de
personnes y subiront des opérations vitales et des traitements médicaux. En
outre, la population locale y recevra des informations, des formations et de
l’éducation dans plusieurs domaines.
Les 450 volontaires des Mercy Ships proviennent d’une trentaine de pays
différents et s’engagent individuellement pour guérir les personnes les plus
démunies et leur apporter de l’espoir. La plupart d’entre eux sont transportés par
Brussels Airlines vers diverses destinations africaines. Alors qu’ils couvrent euxmêmes
leurs frais de transport et d’hébergement, ces volontaires offrent leurs
services professionnels gratuitement aux communautés les plus pauvres du monde.

Mercy Ships brengt hoop en genezing naar de allerarmsten
Sinds 1978 hebben ongeveer drie miljoen mensen hulp gekregen van
Mercy Ships. 56.000 van hen ondergingen een operatie aan boord van
een van de hospitaalschepen.
De Africa Mercy, ‘s werelds grootste niet-gouvernementele
hospitaalschip, lag in het voorjaar van 2012 aangemeerd in Togo en zal vanaf
augustus het West-Afrikaanse land Guinee aandoen. Tienduizenden mensen
zullen levensreddende operaties ondergaan en een medische behandeling
krijgen. Daarnaast wordt de plaatselijke bevolking ook informatie, training en
onderwijs op verscheidene terreinen aangeboden.
De 450 vrijwilligers van Mercy Ships komen uit een dertigtal landen en zijn
stuk voor stuk toegewijde mensen die hoop en genezing naar de armen willen
brengen. Velen van deze vrijwilligers worden via Brussels Airlines naar
verschillende bestemmingen in Afrika gebracht. Ze nemen niet alleen de reisen
verblijfkosten op zich, maar bieden ook nog eens gratis hun professionele
diensten aan de armste lokale gemeenschappen ter wereld aan.
