Control fire in the road tunnel by the optimization of the heat flux

This paper present a numerical simulation by CFD program named the fire dynamics
simulator (FDS) based on large eddy simulations (LES) .This study focused to the
large scale fire tests of a passenger car in a road tunnel. Many tunnels are equipped
with longitudinal ventilation systems to control smoke in the event of a fire, a smoke
and hot combustion products can form a layer near the ceiling and flow in the opposite
direction to the ventilation stream. This reverse stratified flow has an important
influence on fire characters, plume spread in the tunnel and comportment of tunnel
structure and all object existed behind the fire.
The results obtained which are (1) the heat release rate of a fire in a tunnel (HRR), (2)
all heat transfer modes, (3) the functions which related to the dispersion of smoke
resembling to the visibility, level of CO and soot density it’s consider a data to control
fire in road tunnel and (4) shape of plume after the interaction with water spray from
sprinkler.
