Magn<strong>et</strong>ically driven actuator materials, such as the ternary and interm<strong>et</strong>allic<br />

Heusler alloys with composition X 2 YM, are studied within the <strong>de</strong>nsity-functional<br />

theory (DFT) with the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) for the electronic<br />

exchange and corre<strong>la</strong>tion. The geom<strong>et</strong>rical and electronic structures for the magn<strong>et</strong>ic<br />

L21 structure are calcu<strong>la</strong>ted. The structures and magn<strong>et</strong>ic moments at equilibrium are<br />

calcu<strong>la</strong>ted.<br />
