Statement adopted unanimously by the Assembly after deliberation
The Assembly,
Congratulates the IOC on passing on, through this Forum, the message that sport is a culture
in its own right which has significant impact on today's society and that of tomorrow;
Recognizes
– that sport plays a role in the education of the individual and that Olympism has an influence
in the development of a collective consciousness of tolerance and understanding among
different cultures;
– that sports culture plays an important role in the development of new art forms and in
design, architecture and urban planning;
– that culture is essential to Olympism which possesses a moral force, an educational value
and an aesthetic perception;
Supports the IOC's efforts to integrate the concepts of culture and sport;

Invites the IOC and its Cultural Commission to organize with interested academic, school
sports and sports bodies events highlighting in particular the educational values of Olympism;
Encourages the IOC Cultural Commission to organize periodically an international event
associated with sport and culture, demonstrating the fundamental role of culture in Olympsim
and sport;
