Sport and Photography
Competition
For amateur photographers only, the latest
IOC Sport and Photography Competition was
organised in 2007 through the National
Olympic Committees in three categories (A:
Photos of an occurrence - B: Portfolio/reports
& C: portraits, illustrations, concepts).
The 500 photos submitted for the competition
were all sports related and the competition
inspired a broad-based interest in sports
photography, amateur sport and traditional
sport. More generally through the contest,
the Commission continues to promote the
association of sport with art and culture.
An international jury composed of IOC members,
Commission members and professional
photographers with the assistance of the
World Press Photo Foundation selected
three winners for each of the three categories.
They received special trophies and cash
prizes at an award ceremony held at the
International Olympic Academy in Olympia.
In addition their work was published in a
brochure uniting the winning works, for
many of these young photographers it was
the first time they had the chance to see
their work in print.
