Olympiart Award<br />

Launched in 1991 and open to be award<br />

every fours years, the Olympiart Award was<br />

the first Commission contest aimed at<br />

strengthening the link between the arts and<br />

the celebration of the Olympiad. It is also<br />

a revival and mo<strong>de</strong>rn successor of the<br />

Olympic art competitions organised by Pierre<br />

<strong>de</strong> Coubertin at the early Games.<br />

Painting, architecture and music have been<br />

honoured with the awar<strong>de</strong>es Hans Erni,<br />

Pedro Ramirez Vázquez and Mikis<br />

Theodorakis. All prestigious artists they<br />

also have a strong interest in sport, peace<br />

and youth.<br />

The award ru<strong>les</strong> were changed in 2004 to<br />

en<strong>sur</strong>e the award was given to an artist from<br />

the host country of the Games of the<br />

Olympiad. The new format for the award will<br />

continue for the next Olympiad and the<br />

search for a recipient in China is on. The<br />

presentation of the prize will take p<strong>la</strong>ce in<br />

Beijing during the Games after the jury has<br />

selected the <strong>de</strong>serving artist.<br />
