Sport and Singing Contest
Launched in November 2007 the IOC
Sport and Singing Contest is the latest
Commission contest aimed at developing
the association of sport and art at national
and international levels.
Although the contest is new the association
of art and music stretches back to the early
modern Olympics where competitions were
held to find an Olympic Anthem.
All National Olympic Committees have been
invited to organise a national singing contest
inspired by the idea of sport and to submit a
song on DVD, composed of original lyrics,
music and choreography to the international
competition. The three winning performances
to be selected by an international jury will
receive a cash price and a diploma. In addition
the winning singers will be invited to Beijing
during the Olympic Games to perform
their song.
The most famous athlete/musician is
arguably Micheline Ostermeyer from France
who was at once a brilliant pianist and
an outstanding athlete who won three
medals in athletics in the 1948 Olympic
Games but this could change with this new
contest.
