Another page-turning and “bone-chilling suspense”
from Lisa Jewell. Three siblings who have
been out of touch for more than 20 years are all
drawn back together when the youngest inherits
the old family home after her parents died
in the house in an apparent suicide pact with
an unidentified man. Technically, this novel is
outstanding. Jewell manipulates the readers by
allowing us to trust (or not) the three narrators.
And the three threads of the narrative weave
together and apart, allowing us to contrast and
compare, and to consider their reliability and
honesty. A fantastic read if you like to stay up late.
Trois frères et sœurs qui ont perdu contact depuis plus
de 20 ans se retrouvent lorsque la plus jeune hérite
de la maison familiale après le décès de ses parents
dans un présumé pacte de suicide avec un homme
inconnu. Théoriquement, ce roman est exceptionnel.
Jewell manipule les lecteurs en leur permettant de
faire confiance (ou non) aux trois narrateurs. Et les
trois fils du récit se rejoignent et se séparent, nous
encourageant à opposer et comparer les points de
vue, et à reconsidérer leur fiabilité et leur honnêteté.
Une formidable lecture pour ceux et celles qui aiment
rester éveillés jusqu’aux petites heures.
