Islam and the West S u m m a r y • Islam, a necessary dialogue The professor Luis Sols provides us with an extensive and didactic presentation of the world of Islam, both from its religious and its political, historical, sociological and cultural points of view. The author provides us with an analysis of the conflictive relations existing between Islam and the West, the historical-religious evolution of Islam, the situation of the Near East in the 20 t h century, the origins and evolution of Islamism, the different political attitudes of the Islamic movements, the social situation in Muslim countries, the situation of women in Islamic society, the most recent military conflicts and in short, the current socio-political situation of Islam and Islamic countries and on the international front. w L U I S S O L S • Opinions regarding relations between Islam and the West The experts in matters of international politics Mikel Aramendi, Gabirel Ezkurdia, Jose Mari Pastor, Juanjo Sanchez Arreseigor and Jesus Torquemada provide us with their view of the conflictive relations existing between the Islamic world and the West.
