Selain itu, sebagai anggota RSPOIndonesia Smallholder Taskforce, kami ikut ambil bagian dalammempromosikan penerapan RSPO kepada para petani.Perkebunan kami di Sumatra Utara dan Kalimantan Selatanmenjadi lokasi uji coba untuk penerapan prinsip dan kriteriaRSPO.Kami telah memperoleh resertifikasi atas ISO 14001:2004 daritahun 2005 sampai tahun 2007 pada dua perkebunan kamidi Sumatra Utara dan sertifikasi baru untuk satu pabrikpengolahan kami di Kalimantan Selatan. Kami melaksanakanpengawasan dan pengukuran secara teratur berdasarkanSistem Manajemen Lingkungan ISO 14001:2004.Sebagai komitmen untuk menjaga hutan, kami bekerja samadengan World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Indonesia untukmengidentifikasi High Conservation Value Forest baik untukperkebunan baru maupun perkebunan yang telah ada.In addition, we adopt environmental friendly methods tocontrol pests and to fertilize the soil. For instance, barn owlsare used to control rat population in estates; organic compostand empty fruit bunches are used as organic fertilizer; andfibre mill’s solid waste (from the fibre of FBB’s husk) is usedas fuel for energy efficiency. We use palm oil mill effluent, aliquid waste from the mill, as organic fertilizer in the LandApplication method.We have been an active member of RSPO since February 2005and we support the implementation of the recently adoptednew RSPO principle and criteria for sustainable palm oildevelopment. We are also involved in developing verificationsystem as guidelines for sustainable and environmentalfriendly plantation practices in the palm oil industry.In addition, as a member of RSPO Indonesia SmallholderTaskforce, we are active in promoting RSPO implementationamongst smallholders (farmers). Our plantations in NorthSumatra and South Kalimantan are the trial locations of RSPOprinciple and criteria model.We have been granted re-certification of ISO 14001:2004 from2005 to 2007 in two of our estates in North Sumatra andwe obtained new certification for one mill in South Kalimantan.Regular monitoring and assessment are conducted basedon the ISO 14001:2004 Environment Management System.In our commitment to preserve forestry, we collaborate withWorld Wildlife Fund (WWF) Indonesia to identify new andexisting plantations of high conservation value forest.Kegiatan SosialSocial ActivitiesKami merupakan salah satu pemberi kerja berskalanasional, yang menyediakan sumber kehidupan bagiribuan masyarakat di Indonesia, dimana moto kami adalah“menciptakan personil SMART yang peduli terhadap insanmanusia”. Kami mengadakan dan mendukung berbagaiprogram pengembangan sosial dalam penyediaan matapencaharian, pendidikan, bantuan medis, fasilitas kesehatandan olahraga yang tersebar luas di berbagai lokasi operasikami. Melalui Yayasan Sinar Mas Peduli (SMP), yang didirikanpada bulan Mei 2004, kami bekerja sama dengan yayasan laindi seluruh Indonesia dalam rangka pengembangan sosial,termasuk diantaranya Yayasan Tzu Chi Indonesia yangberafiliasi dengan organisasi sosial Tzu Chi yang berskaladunia, yang dibentuk di Taiwan.In Indonesia, we are a major nation-wide employer providinglivelihood to thousands of communities across the countrywhere our motto is “to create SMART people who carefor human kind”. In addition, we are continuously leadingand supporting various social development programsthat provide livelihood, education, medical assistance,physical health and sport facilities throughout the manylocations where we operate and beyond. Through Sinar MasPeduli (SMP) Foundation establised in May 2004, we haveworked with various established foundations acrossIndonesia to fulfill our social developmental objectives. Thesefoundations include the Indonesia Tzu Chi Foundation whichis affiliated to the world wide social Tzu Chi organizationestablished in Taiwan.
