Rapporti ISTISAN 09/24Il sovrappeso e l’obesità comportano, inoltre, dei costi economici importanti per i singoliin<strong>di</strong>vidui e per la società. Gli stu<strong>di</strong> condotti nella Regione europea dell’OrganizzazioneMon<strong>di</strong>ale della Sanità (OMS o World Health Organization WHO) in<strong>di</strong>cano che i costi perl’assistenza sanitaria <strong>di</strong>retta all’obesità rappresentano il 2-4% della spesa sanitaria nazionale; atale spesa vanno aggiunti tutti i costi in<strong>di</strong>retti dovuti ad esempio <strong>alla</strong> per<strong>di</strong>ta <strong>di</strong> produttività, <strong>alla</strong>morte precoce, ai problemi psicologici (4).Nonostante il fenomeno vada assumendo progressivamente <strong>di</strong>mensioni preoccupanti, ilnostro Paese non aveva a tutt’oggi sviluppato un adeguato sistema <strong>di</strong> monitoraggio dello statoponderale e delle abitu<strong>di</strong>ni alimentari della popolazione italiana (e in particolare dei bambini), ingrado <strong>di</strong> fornire dati epidemiologici accurati e confrontabili tra le <strong>di</strong>verse realtà regionali elocali, a sostegno <strong>di</strong> strategie <strong>di</strong> prevenzione appropriate e basate su prove <strong>di</strong> efficacia.Per rispondere a tale esigenza, il Centro Nazionale per la Prevenzione e il Controllo delleMalattie (CCM) del Ministero della Salute ha deciso <strong>di</strong> finanziare nell’ottobre 2007 il Progetto“Sistema <strong>di</strong> indagini sui rischi comportamentali in età 6-17 anni” nel cui ambito, come primaattività, si è sviluppata l’iniziativa “<strong>OKkio</strong> <strong>alla</strong> <strong>SALUTE</strong> - Promozione della salute e dellacrescita sana dei bambini della scuola primaria”. Questo progetto rientra nelle finalità delprogramma europeo <strong>di</strong> lotta alle malattie croniche “Guadagnare Salute” a cui il governo italianoha aderito (2).Il progetto è coor<strong>di</strong>nato dal Centro Nazionale <strong>di</strong> Epidemiologia, Sorveglianza e Promozionedella Salute (CNESPS) dell’<strong>Istituto</strong> <strong>Superiore</strong> <strong>di</strong> Sanità (ISS) e vede coinvolti <strong>di</strong>versi enti eistituzioni, tra cui il Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca (principalmenteattraverso l’Ufficio Scolastico Regionale per il Lazio), l’<strong>Istituto</strong> Nazionale <strong>di</strong> Ricerca per gliAlimenti e la Nutrizione (INRAN), le Regioni e Province autonome italiane.L’obiettivo principale <strong>di</strong> <strong>OKkio</strong> <strong>alla</strong> <strong>SALUTE</strong> è la definizione e implementazione nelle<strong>di</strong>verse Regioni italiane <strong>di</strong> un sistema <strong>di</strong> sorveglianza volto a descrivere la variabilità geograficae l’evoluzione nel tempo della situazione ponderale dei bambini delle scuole primarie (6-10anni), degli stili alimentari, dell’abitu<strong>di</strong>ne all’esercizio fisico, e delle eventuali iniziativescolastiche favorenti la sana nutrizione e l’attività fisica. I dati raccolti potranno essere utili asuggerire azioni appropriate per la riduzione del sovrappeso e obesità nell’infanzia e amonitorare l’efficacia delle iniziative intraprese. Inoltre con <strong>OKkio</strong> <strong>alla</strong> <strong>SALUTE</strong> l’Italiapartecipa al progetto europeo European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Iniziative, coor<strong>di</strong>natodal WHO Regione Europea, che prevede la raccolta <strong>di</strong> dati sui bambini <strong>di</strong> età 6-9 anni chefrequentano la scuola primaria e a cui ad oggi hanno aderito 16 Paesi europei (21).In questo rapporto sono presentati la metodologia del sistema <strong>di</strong> indagini e i risultati relativial primo anno <strong>di</strong> attività e <strong>di</strong> raccolta dati.Bibliografia1.
