Celulose: Como foi sua caminhada até a presidência
da Veracel?
Caio: Cheguei à Veracel em janeiro de 2021 e, no
mesmo ano, passei a ocupar também uma posição
no conselho da associação responsável pela representação
institucional do setor de árvores plantadas,
a IBÁ (Indústria Brasileira de Árvores). Cheguei
à Veracel após 18 anos de experiência no setor,
período em que fui presidente da FLORESTAR
(Associação Paulista dos Produtores, Fornecedores
e Consumidores de Florestas Plantadas). Tive também
passagem pela Votorantim Papel e Celulose e
uma trajetória de muito aprendizado e conquistas
na Fibria e na Suzano, onde gerenciei operações
florestais e projetos estratégicos das empresas, além
de ter atuado com inovação. Sem dúvida, essa vivência
tem contribuído para fortalecer os objetivos
da Veracel.
Celulose: Como avalia o momento da empresa
no mercado?
Caio: O momento da Veracel é muito positivo.
Além de termos mantido nossa operação durante a
pandemia da Covid-19, nos renovamos e temos investido
em inovação, utilizando o que há de mais
novo em tecnologia, inteligência artificial e big
data. Além disso, estamos muito focados em melhorar
ainda mais nossa eficiência e capacidade de
produção. Somos um importante agente de transformação
no nosso território. Como exemplo, no
fim do ano passado anunciamos um investimento
de cerca de R$ 95 milhões em uma nova rodovia
de 25 km (quilômetros) de extensão na Bahia, em
parceria com o Governo do Estado. A estrada vai
ligar a BA-275 e a BA-982 e facilitar o transporte
de madeira de eucalipto da área florestal à nossa
unidade fabril, em Eunápolis (BA), proporcionando
ganhos logísticos para a nossa operação e para as
comunidades da região. Esse investimento ilustra
bem o momento e as ações da Veracel em prol
de sua competitividade e que também contribui
para o desenvolvimento da nossa região, no sul da
Bahia.
Celulose: A pandemia da Covid-19 afetou o
setor de celulose?
Caio: O setor teve um papel fundamental no
combate aos efeitos da disseminação da Covid-19
Celulose: What was your path to becoming
Veracel’s President?
Caio: I arrived at Veracel in January 2021, and,
in the same year, I also assumed a position on
the board of the association responsible for the
institutional representation of the Planted Tree
Sector, the Brazilian Tree Industry (IBÁ). I arrived
at Veracel after 18 years of experience in the
Sector. During that time, I was president of the
State of São Paulo Association of Producers,
Suppliers, and Consumers of Planted Forests
(Florestar). I also had a stint at Votorantim Papel
e Celulose and a time of much learning and
achievement at Fibria and Suzano, where I managed
forestry operations and strategic projects
of the companies, in addition to having worked
with innovation. Undoubtedly, this experience
has contributed to strengthening Veracel’s
objectives.
Celulose: How do you evaluate your Company
at this time?
Caio: At this moment, things for Veracel are
very positive. In addition to maintaining our
operation during the Covid-19 pandemic, we
have renewed and invested in innovation, using
the latest technology, artificial intelligence,
and big data. Furthermore, we are focused on
further improving our efficiency and production
capacity. Therefore, we are an essential agent of
transformation in our area. For example, at the
end of last year, we announced an investment
of about R$ 95 million for a new 25-kilometer-
-long highway in the State of Bahia in partnership
with the State Government. The road will
connect BA-275 and BA-982 and facilitate the
transport of eucalyptus logs from the forest area
to our plant in Eunápolis, providing logistical
gains for our operation and the region’s communities.
This investment very well illustrates
Veracel’s current actions in favor of competitiveness
and contributions to the development of
our Region in the South of Bahia.
Celulose: How has the pandemic affected the
Pulp Sector?
Caio: The Sector played a crucial and notably
important role in combating the effects of the
