INTERVIEW WITH MAYOR: LUCIANO ALMEIDA
What are the most important
public policies of the city, the resources and ways
to implement them?
Public policy is creating an environment to generate
employment and income. I think this is the healthy way
to grow anywhere in the world. With job creation, people
manage their lives, buy houses… Piracicaba, in the last
two years, has been sought after by several industries that
recognize its attractiveness for new investments. Our
municipality already received more than R$5 billion
in investments, with the expected generation of 7,000
new jobs. Thus, we have been experiencing a period
of economic recovery with positive hiring rates shown
by the General Register of Employed and Unemployed
People. Accumulated from January 2021 to January
2023, Piracicaba has a positive balance of over 16,000
jobs with a formal contract.
What are the main actions aimed
at companies and productive sectors and why
invest in Piracicaba?
Piracicaba has everything a company needs to invest.
It has a good consumer market because
we belong to a metropolitan region,
where the residents of neighbouring
municipalities come to consume
goods and services. We count with
a diversified economy, with a chain
of suppliers in almost all sectors,
with emphasis on the automotive,
steel, paper and cardboard, sugaralcohol
and agro-energy sectors.
Another highlight is Piracicaba
Technological Complex (PTP),
which naturally attracts startups
and research companies, in addition
to skilled labour due to the countless
universities and technical schools
located here. We also reconcile
an excellent quality of life with
a complete logistic infrastructure
with water, energy and good access
roads for the shipment of products.These are the local
environment pillars for attracting investments.
What are the next steps for the
Administration to boost city growth?
Piracicaba will experience a moment of transition.
In the coming years we will not have a marked
demographic growth, therefore, instead of expanding the
structure of public services, we will focus on improving
the quality of what already exists. With this logistics,
we are working to improve the quality of education,
public transport with the opening of a new bidding
process, and the resurfacing works of the roads system,
since the City opened a bidding process for the paving
of 200 kilometres of roads in the city. I also include
in this process the consolidation of the Cultural Mill,
the new regionalized management model through
the implementation of the Custodial pilot project
and the construction of more than 1.100 low-income
housing, in partnership between the City and the State
Government through the “Our House” program - Social
Price Modality.
