What is your life story and your<br />
connection with <strong>Piracicaba</strong>?<br />
I was born in São Paulo, but I came to <strong>Piracicaba</strong><br />
with my family at 4 years of age, when my father, the<br />
entrepreneur Manuel Rodrigues Tavares de Almeida,<br />
who had a real estate business in São Paulo, decided<br />
to buy Caninha Tatuzinho (sugar cane liquor factory).<br />
This was the reason that brought us to Noiva da Colina<br />
(city’s nickname given by a writer and poet due to its<br />
night time cloaks of fog). Since then I have never left<br />
the city.<br />
What are the main challenges since<br />
you took over municipal management?<br />
One of the difficulties was having started my mandate<br />
in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Thankfully,<br />
with the support of all <strong>Piracicaba</strong>’s community, we<br />
managed to overcome this phase. Another challenge was<br />
to modernise the service structure for citizens, through<br />
internal reorganization work seeking to provide services<br />
with greater quality and efficiency. We need to change<br />
and prove that the public sector can and should be equal<br />
or better than the private initiative.<br />
