municipality: as they are electric, the sweepers do not
pollute and thus contribute to make Piracicaba a
exemplar city in sustainability.
Waste collection
It is estimated that 100% of Piracicaba’s population
had been serviced by a household waste collection service
in 2019, a percentage higher than the average of the
100 largest municipalities in Brazil analysed in that
year. The result placed the city in the first best coverage
among the analysed cities. The municipality occupied
the first place in 2009, with a coverage rate equal to
100.0%.
Partnership promotes asphalt
resurfacing of the city’s main roads
The Piracicaba City’s Municipal Office of Urban
Mobility, Traffic and Transport, in partnership with the
government of the State of São Paulo signed via Detran -
State Department of Traffic of São Paulo and the Respect
to Life Program, to promote constant improvements in
the main roads of the municipality.
The work includes new asphalt coating and vertical
signage on the main avenues, totaling 57.900 m²
in area and approximately 5 kilometres in length,
with investment from the State Government in the
municipality of R$5.036.489 million. Roads with
an intense flow of vehicles were chosen to promote the
recovery of the asphalt and consequently, collaborate for
a more fluid and safer flow of traffic.
The services have the support from the Municipal Office
of Infrastructure and Environment with tree pruning
and from the Municipal Office of Works and Custodial
with the execution of drainage for the management
of blackflies. All works feature comprehensive and
appealing public signage.
