14. Letter of R’ Eliezer Yehudah
Finkel, Rosh Yeshivah of Mir
Long letter concerning the plans for the Mir Yeshivah in
Jerusalem, with the signature of the Rosh Yeshivah, R’ Eliezer
Yehudah Finkel. The letter is from September 1946, typed, with
his handwritten signature in English.
Interesting detailed letter in which R’ Finkel writes about
the secret of the eternity of the Torah after the terrible
Holocaust. The Rosh Yeshivah describes in the letter his
plans to build a large building for the Yeshivah and
dormitory in Jerusalem for the Mir yeshivah students who
s urvived the Holocaust. It is well-known that it was R’ Finkel’s
desire that the yeshivah students who escaped from Europe
to Shanghai during the War would relocate to the new Mir
Yeshivah in Jerusalem. To his regret, they did not come to Eretz
Y israel and continued instead on to America. However, his
great dreams were eventually realised, and today the Mir
Yeshivah in Jerusalem numbers 5,000 students!

wedding in 1945 on a document from the Rabbinate and the

ראש הישיבה הרב אליעזר יהודה פינקל.‏ המכתב מחודש אלול
תש"ו,‏ ספטמבר 1946, בדפוס,‏ עם חתימה בכתב יד באנגלית.‏
מכתב מעניין ומפורט בו כותב הרב פינקל על סוד נצחיות התורה
לאחר השואה הנוראה.‏ במכתב מתאר ראש הישיבה את תוכניתו
לבנות בנין גדול לישיבה ופנימיה בירושלים,‏ לניצולי השואה מבני
ישיבת מיר.‏ כידוע,‏ השתוקק הרב פינקל שבני הישיבה שנמלטו
לשנגהי מאימת המלחמה יבואו לישיבת מיר המחודשת בירושלים,‏
אולם למגינת לבו לא באו התלמידים לארץ ישראל,‏ ועברו לארצות
הברית.‏ אולם התוכניות הגדולות נתקיימו במלואם,‏ וכיום מונה
הישיבה בירושלים כ-‏ 5000 תלמידים,‏ כ"י!‏

15. Letter of R’ Yaakov Yisrael
Kanievsky
Handwritten letter from R’ Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky (of
Horonsteipel). 1981. In his handwriting and with his signature
and stamp.
In the letter, R’ Kanievsky (who was called “The Steipler”)
thanks a charity organization in America for money that he
received to distribute to the needy and he blesses the directors
of the organization.
With the stamps: R’ Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky, Bnei Brak,
Shikun Chazon Ish. R’ Y.Y. Kanievsky was the brother-in-law
of R’Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, the “Chazon Ish”.
