An account of Sir Moses Montefiore’s journey to Israel in 1839,
written by his wife Yehudit, translated into Hebrew. London,
Nathan Valentine press. 1877. [2], IV, 285, [1] pp., 16.5 cm.
A detailed first hand account of life in Israel at that period.
Includes the book Hatakot K’zarot (with a separate title page),
a compilation of facts about cultivating the land in Israel
c ompiled by Moses Montefiore. Translated by “one of the
lovers of the Hebrew language” [A. S.] Lawrence, who also
i ncluded a lengthy introduction with an eulogy for Yehudit
M ontefiore. P rinted dedication to Sir Moses. Very unusual
copy, published in two places and on various paper types.
The first leaves [2], IV, (with an English introduction) were
published in London on paper typical to London, pages 1 – 80
were published in a different place on low-quality paper, pages
81 – 184 were, once again, published in London but on plainer
paper, and pages 185 to the end were also published in London
on paper similar to that used in the first pages!
Very good condition, original binding with the word
“Yehudit” embossed in gold.
