The sixties was a decade which people remember
for many reasons. There were good times
and happy events such as music festivals like
Woodstock. There were also difficult times, for
instance, the Vietnam War.
One of the most memorable events of the sixties
took place in 1969, when a person walked on
the moon for the first time. Over five hundred
million people were watching on 21st July when
Neil Armstrong took the famous ‘first step’. A
tragic event which shocked the world was the
assassination of President Kennedy in 1963.
In the world of music, there were a lot of pop
artists in the charts, for example, The Beatles and
The Rolling Stones. In cinemas, James Bond was a big
hit. There were six Bond films between 1962 and
1969. Fashions were bright and interesting – it was
the era of miniskirts, long hair and hippy clothes.
By the end of the decade, the world was a different
place. People were more aware of issues such as
women’s rights and inventions like the calculator
and the satellite had changed their lives.
