The Regional Management Leipzig-West Saxony sees itself as a partner of
industry and trade promoting the development of available potentials and
acting as a catalyst for new networks. The primary objective of its work is
to provide new sales opportunities for products which are developed and
produced in the region.
As a partner of economic development agencies, the Regional Management
coordinates cross-county initiatives for locational and business development
within the Leipzig-West Saxon region. Pooling the development potentials
for a comprehensive and holistic regional development specifically
focuses on the strengths and advantages of the individual business venues
and on the economic power found in the individual counties.
One of the most important tasks is assisting the City of Leipzig as well as
the Counties of Leipzig and North Saxony in creating and establishing a
corporate design for the Leipzig region. This is associated with the objective
of honing the profile of the Leipzig region in the international competition
among business venues and creating a unified, coordinated image which is
supported by all partners.
Branch Focus: Energy and Environmental Technology
The development of new technologies in the energy and environmental
sector exhibits an unprecedented dynamic growth. Numerous small and
midsized enterprises are at home in the Leipzig-West Saxon region where
they conduct research in this sector and ceaselessly strive to launch new
solutions on the market.
With the objective of promoting these companies, the city of Leipzig’s cluster
“Energy and Environmental Technology” is to be expanded to the surrounding
region (Counties of Leipzig and North Saxony). The cluster’s expansion
provides the companies with the following advantages:
• Realization of innovative concepts in feasible projects
• Participation in expert meetings of the “Energy Metropolis Leipzig”
• Exchange of experiences
• Knowledge transfer through research facilities and universities
• Development of new sales markets
Branch Focus: Food Industry
The Leipzig-West Saxon region has a high concentration of producers in the
food industry. Within the scope of the branch focus, existing networks between
producers and consumers are to be expanded further; thus, providing
impulses for the development of new sales markets in the region.
For a couple of years now, a trend towards conscious and healthy nutrition
has been noticed. That’s why the willingness to acquire regional products
increases among consumers. On the one hand, the customer has more trust
in products which come from the local region. On the other hand, these
products have an ecological and qualitative added value which is primarily
due to the fact that the distances are much shorter. In this context, the Regional
Management implements the following projects:
• Development of the “RegioBrunch” brand
• Development of a regional menu
• Establishment of the “Healthy Nutrition” network
• Compilation of a product and service catalog of the food industry

In the health care industry, two essential growth trends can be defined for
the Leipzig-West Saxon region which are very promising. This applies, on
the one hand, to health care tourism which has the best prerequisites due to
the natural environment. On the other hand, the demographic change generates
an increased demand for health care products for the elderly. Both
trends are addressed in the Regional Management’s project development.
As a first step in the health care tourism sector, it was decided to survey all
