Goals:
Students will learn the driving forces behind a 50 years history of European Integration. They
will understand the rationale and problems of European Institutions. The course will teach
them the principal channels through which European Integration may be to the benefit of
European citizens. It will also show the functioning and problems of so-called common policies
of the EU (e.g. common agricultural policy), as well as the European Monetary Union.
The course will thus lay important groundwork for the pursuit of profressional careers in institutions
like the European Commission, or in national institutions dealing with international
integration. It will also enable students to participate in an informed and well-guided manner
in public discussions about European Integration.
